And below FBS we have the Big Dog Conference:

Gonzaga
Georgetown
Samford
Butler
Alabama A&M
Boston University
Houston Baptist
Maryland-Baltimore County
UNC Asheville
St. Francis (NY)
Western Illinois
Wofford
Yale

Western Illinois is the Leathernecks. Do you mean Southern Illinois? (Salukis)

What about Nevada, NCSU and New Mexico? Or are they too wild for this K-9 Configuration?

Only domesticated canids are allowed, thank you very much. 03-wink

WIU has a bulldog mascot. SIU can work too to get the Big Dog to 14:

West - Gonzaga, Butler, WIU, SIU, Samford, Alabama A&M, Houston Baptist
East - Boston U, UNCA, Georgetown, UMBC, Wofford, St. Francis, Yale
