RE: PREVIEW Game 18 - W&M vs. Towson
We should be good. Only 2:30 to go going into the last break and up big. Great 2nd half once again. Hopefully we can play a good 2 halves against Delaware to get us ready for Hofstra and Northeastern at home the following 2 games.

Our freshmen just keep improving. They are getting good minutes and performing well.

we need to learn how to rebound... can't play like this all season and be successful.

Great second half adjustments again. Hope we can play well enough in the first half of the rest of the games to make the adjustments count from here on in.

These guys have the talent and can execute at a level to beat anyone on the schedule.

I lost count but I believe Towson had 1,000 offensive rebounds.

Still--a road win is a road win. Great job by the team in the second half shooting the lights out and making free throws. Now let's go get Delaware on Wednesday and really set the stage for a big showdown Saturday afternoon.

John Feinstein on Comcast referred to Omar as a "baby faced killer". Fair. Also a "silky" shot. Early in the game, though, Feinstein said "he was really flat-footed on that one". Hasn't seen much of Omar, apparently.

That duo was really on fire this afternoon. I learned that Tony Shaver has taken WM to three of the last seven Patriot League title games, and that WM counts a grand total of two presidents among its alumni, including James Madison.

RE: PREVIEW Game 18 - W&M vs. Towson
Ok, friends, this is getting serious: we're looking like we know we're good; lots of confidence
out there in the second half.

We are playing truly team basketball offensively, better each game. Great spacing, passing-
creating open outside shots and easy layups. And suddenly everyone is making foul shots.

Defensively we still struggle at times under the boards (see today's first half), but when have we seen a Tribe team now routinely blocking shots and stealing the ball?

*Marcus had a routine game...yet scored 18 with 3 assists, a steal, and 4 rebounds. Hit 4 for 9 three-pointers

*Dixon a high-level game doing everything including 20 points (9 for 11 at foul line too)

*Tarpey another "Superman" game with another double double plus five assists

*Omar appears really back: 14 more points, a dagger steal, and a terrific all-round floor game

And the maturing of the freshmen: Malinowski coming on fast--13 points, 5 rebounds,
tough floor game..a star of the future? We lose nothing with him on the floor.
And Whitman-Schlotman, Tot...giving us the depth we need.

Terrific road win. Beat Delaware Wednesday!

William & Mary educated U.S. Presidents Thomas Jefferson, James Monroe, and John Tyler as well as other key figures important to the development of the nation, including U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Marshall, Speaker of the House Henry Clay, and 16 signers of the Declaration of Independence. W&M founded the Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society in 1776 and was the first school of higher education in the United States to install an honor code of conduct for students. The establishment of graduate programs in law and medicine in 1779 makes it one of the first universities in the United States.

That level of ignorance is impressive. How do you not know what conference you're announcing?

I agree.

I would also add that while I'm not sure that this team belongs in the national Top 50-75, it appears that the program is on the verge of being a consistent power in the CAA ... and that will produce its own rewards on the recruiting trail, and in future results.

Indeed. I believe they print that information (more or less) in the Media Guide every year--I don't mind when the announcers riff on WM's distinguished past, but there is really no excuse for kicking it around as badly as they did today.

RE: PREVIEW Game 18 - W&M vs. Towson
Average distance of a made Towson shot today was about 3 feet. Killed us on the offensive glass in the first half.

Versatility of the Tribe offense showed again in the 2nd half - outside scoring, inside scoring, everyone scoring, and getting it done at the free throw line. 2nd straight 50 point 2nd half.

Freshmen becoming a big part of this team.

RE: PREVIEW Game 18 - W&M vs. Towson
Towson's "Stat Broadcast Live" is an amazing piece of technology. Rocco must see that and feel like he's in heaven

5 Tribe players scored in double digits today to include Terry's double-double. Sean was the only starter to not score 10 or more (2 points and 4 rebounds).

We were 81.% to TU's 50% from the charity stripe. 56% to their 42% in FGs, and 56% to 33% from the arch. We turned the ball over 5 more times and they outrebounded us by 6 but only 6 of our rebounds were on offense and they had 20 which explains how they murdered us on 2nd chance points. 36 of Towson's points came in the paint. The Tigers had 0 fast break points.

Malinowski crushed it today with 11 points and 5 rebounds, most of which came in the first 17 of his 20 minutes.

RE: PREVIEW Game 18 - W&M vs. Towson
I think Shaver wanted to play zone knowing that Towson was a crappy shooting team. You are going to give up a lot more offensive boards because of this. Towson took 19 more shots than we did, but only made 2 more then we did. We actually had a decent rebounding night with 32 total. Where we won was at the line. I'm glad to see us making our free throws. Towson missed a ton of theirs.

Also, Davis doesn't have that type of offensive game very often. He made a lot of tough shots in traffic.

Our RPI was 98 before our game against the Tigers.

Pomeroy has us updated at 103.

RE: PREVIEW Game 18 - W&M vs. Towson
Billy Mac stated in his scouting report that Towson leads the CAA rebounding by a wide margin. While I'm disappointed that we gave 20 offensive boards, I'm not exactly surprised based on who we were playing. At times in the second half, it was refreshing to see Tarpey (another double-double btw) battle in there for a few of those defensive boards.

SECU Arena is a VERY fine place to watch a basketball game. Great sight lines, great layout and overall sharp design. I was highly impressed and a bit jealous at the same time. The Hall needs some big help, IMO.

RE: PREVIEW Game 18 - W&M vs. Towson
Random thoughts on today's game:

1) I was surprised Thornton was not rested at least a bit at about the 8:10 (to go) mark in the second half. He took a nasty spill and seemed to limp a bit. Every single shot he took after that point (including a free throw) was short, a sign of tired legs. Obviously we know no lead is safe so you want to keep him in the game but a quick sub at that point, plus the upcoming media timeout, would have given him a chance to get his legs back.
2) Towson was the first team to make us look small at forward.
3) Back to back blocks by Dixon and Prewitt showcase an athleticism for this team I don't we've ever had at W&M.
4) It will be interesting to see if Shaver uses the 1-3-1 zone trap more as the season progresses. Our height, and problems with dribble penetration, make it an interesting alternative defense.
5) Agree with those who say the bench is becoming more effective. Tot played well again and Schlotman was very aggressive in his short time in the game, probably Tot is taking his minutes. Malinowski is playing extremely well. He played 21 minutes today (career high?) because of the foul issues Tarpey and Prewitt had in the first half and I didn't see much drop in team production.
