Can UAB Players Return?
Tonight I was talking to Tim Alexander at the Trussville City Council meeting where the Council approved a pro UAB resolution. We invited Tim to speak to the Council. I can't confirm this, but Tim told me that the NCAA made some kind of arrangements that would allow our players that left to play for other schools to return to play for UAB without penalty if we get the football program restarted. If accurate, and I have no reason to believe it is not, that would be huge though they may decide not to return. IS anyone capable of verifying this development.?

RE: Can UAB Players Return?
The NCAA could probably allow them to transfer back without penalty under special circumstances, but it could not force them to transfer back, and it would be bad form to rescind the offer of immediate eligibility at the new schools.

I would guess that the NCAA could step in.
Those who wanted to come back probably could without sitting out.

For some, the place where they are at now may be better for them.

Each would have to decide.

Would they come back? I can't blame them if they didn't return. But, I will commend their character if they do return. Unfortunately, I don't see football coming back until at least Watts is gone and UAB gets equal representation on the Board.

The other schools should be privy to that possibility though.

Would the NCAA allow UAB to even come back as a full fledge member, or would they have to be an associate member. I doubt CUSA would want such a weakened team as a member.

Did SMU come back as a full member after the death penalty? That is comparable to this scenario.

I would have agreed if not for Charlotte starting a team from scratch with a CUSA invite in hand...

NCAA rules are made to be broken. They might care for little UAB however.

RE: Can UAB Players Return?
It has been repeatedly stated that UAB would not have a football team this year (fall 2015). Any team formed for later seasons will be almost certain to have to bring in all new players (except possibly for those who never left).

If the restoration of football requires the removal of President Watts, I'm afraid that will mean a long, long wait since the only ones who can remove him are the same ones who hired him to be their "hit man" at the scene of the crime.

Unless they get "arrested" by SACS, but even that is too good for these ******** sitting on the board right now. They should all do jail time for this crap.

As for the "no team in 2015" thing, consider the source: Watts. SACS is gonna tear him such a new ass in February, he'll be gone by March.

SMU was shut down for one year by the NCAA. The school decided not to field a team the following year. They returned to play in the SWC in year three (I think that was 1989) under Forrest Gregg, but they were undermanned and very small in size as well.

I was at the Houston-SMU game that year. That was Andre Ware's Heisman season. Houston was running the run 'n shoot, and even though Ware was pulled after the first quarter the final was 95-21. It was a complete mismatch, and even though Jack Pardee emptied the bench UH kept scoring. When Ware was pulled the backup was David Klingler, who threw for better than 4,000 yards the next season as starter.

Pardee and Gregg were friends from their NFL days, and Pardee didn't mean to run it up. It was mostly that the third string guys wanted to score too, and SMU just could not stop them.

Anyhow, yes, they came back as full D1 and as members of the Southwest Conference when they brought back football.

The SMU fans who were around then still have not forgiven UH for that game.

There is one huge difference between us and SMU: they got shut down by the NCAA. We have no such NCAA restriction on our program; it's just been shut down by our corrupt bumbling fool of a president.

SACS investigations take a long time. Nothing is going to happen that fast. At best they announce an investigation that might lead to probation

RE: Can UAB Players Return?
Per my conversations by someone's name I won't mention.

* Yes they would be allowed to return.
* Coach Clark would be our coach and we would return some of our coaches.
* C-USA would have us back in a heart beat.
* We still have anywhere between 45-55 players still here.
* About two thirds, maybe even more of the players that left would return.
* We would collect money for facilities immediately.

All that said I think Watts will drag things out long enough that we would have to skip 2015 and play in 2016. Given what day the program is restored we would have one or two recruiting classes under our belt plus some transfers in from FCS programs.

Just some speculating on my part. The upper part is not.

Right now we need to hammer our state representatives to support Jack's bills. The one's we need to go after is the ones out of the Birmingham Metro area.

The money for facilities part is one of the biggest things to note.

All are important, but that would give an outward indication that UAB will not be held back (as much) in regards to improvements in football.

I don't think the BOT wants to go there right now.

Jack tweeted this morning from legislative orientation that there appears to be a lot of traction for some type of legislation. Let's keep in touch with them. It's a long slog but he's very encouraging
