RE: C-USA January meetings
Well, the January NCAA meetings just concluded, culminating in the vote for paying cost of attendance.

So now, either this week or next, the C-USA meetings will take place. Should be getting some news soon. It's going to be more interesting than the usual winter meetings.

I hope CUSA gives us(UAB) a deadline for restoring football in 2016 by 3/30/2015 or sooner and we will be turned out in all sports for 15/16 if deadline not met.

I fear two months is not enough time. I would like to see the deadline be 12/31/15 and the final decision taken in the 2016 CUSA meeting. No need to rush this.

I may end up wrong, but I just can't see that happening. A school that would kill and reinstate football within 3 months is a bigger liability than one that doesn't play football at all IMOHO.

The conference needs to stay out of UAB's internal business and just decide if it can live indefinitely with one non-FBS member.

If we are going to get the boot, we might as well get on with it. I would prefer our future in all sports be decided asap so that coaches and student athletes can move on with their lives.

I could be wrong but I don't see a deadline or grace period given to UAB. There wasn't one given to Charlotte, Marquette or ST Louis, if there was maybe just maybe one of them may have started football in 2005/06.

Every CUSA school and Admin know and understand that football is a requirement for CUSA, or they should. UAB may get support from a school or two but I fully expect UAB to be looking for a home come this time next week.

RE: C-USA January meetings
I initially thought they wouldn't be allowed to stay based on history alone. But, there may be an outside chance if the league consults TV. Birmingham is the number one college sports market in the nation...pretty hard to replace even adding multiple markets. I'm sure the commish and tv execs (probably only FOX at this time) have looked at CUSA with and without UAB. If the verdict comes back that they want that market and/or perhaps others, then keeping UAB minus football may be an early indication of how the conference may go re: expansion.

How long do the meetings usually last? Wondering when we might hear a verdict on UAB and a potential replacement.

You wont hear of a replacement right now but if their ad was smart he would plan to go straight from Boca to Macon Ga

If or rather when UAB is expelled I look for them to go to the Horizon or Southern Conference.

Reports stating the UAB will ask to delay decision until their review is completed in a few months. About to go to class, so I can't post the link until later.

Is there any real chance of bringing back UAB football after shutting in down just last month? I would have to say the chances are very slim.

CUSA can't wait that long. Regardless of the new review, they aren't going to reinstate football. UAB will focus the $$ towards basketball to pay stipends and such and become like VCU, Butler, Wichita St or FGSU.

In addition: I betting a somewhat of a long shot now that CUSA goes to 16 so USM goes to the East Division. NMSU, TX st and ULL are added to get 2 pretty regional divisions and a lot more content for ASN besides the whoevers get the tier 1 games.

They can bring football back (I hope they do) but they are starting over. A lot of damage has been done. They would have to take a similar path as say ODU or Charlotte.

I am more concerned that relationship and trust damage has been done that cannot be repaired short of Watts' departure and new governing body for UAB. I don't see those happening. So the question is, can the conference trust UAB? Heck, even their own fans and alumni don't trust the administration.
