Richmond's stadium was the first thing I thought of when I saw this post. I really hope there are well-thought plans for this space and not just an open area with vendors/family attractions.

NJ's point above removing a place where fans are close to the action is a good one.

I can't imagine they won't have temp bleachers, as in the past, when game ticket sales make it worthwhile.
Not to mention the noise factor they create when the opponent has the ball near our goal line.

Saturday marks the return of Graduation to Zable. Looks like high of 86 and sunny.

I'm surprised they didn't cover the turf for graduation. Folding chairs right on the field today.

I think thats the posts for the netting.

Great shot.
Chairs on turf justify replacing it more frequently using academic funds?...its ingenious...

And to followup on earlier posts about which endzone view is better if we are getting rid of one end of bleachers...you decide?

I don't think there is any question, aesthetically, plus, you don't have to worry about the afternoon sun, sitting in the scoreboard end zone.

Too bad we can't combine graduation with a home football game. We'd jam the stadium every time!

Anyone see attendance numbers for graduation? Curious if more parents/family/etc actually attended with more seats available.

Estimated crowd, according to Daily Press article, was over 14,000. Far more than Kap[lan Arena.

RE: Zable Stadium Renovation
Has anyone peaked into the stadium to see what the Tribe Tavern setup looks like?

edit:
They are doing a dry run, it seems, with the Tribe Tavern open this Tuesday the 4th. Good idea before they actually do it on game-day.

2nd edit:
The event is actually at the Brewery (VA Beer Co.). Why not do my idea?

Ummm....because it's from 4:30 to 8:30 during a Tuesday - which is during practice. The team occasionally practices in the stadium and I'm sure they don't want people watching practice during game week.

Also, school has begun and there is no place to park...football stadium lot will be packed with student/staff automobiles.

By the way, since Tribe Tavern is in scoreboard end of field wouldn't bleachers in end zone block any view
from Tavern? So perhaps there are no bleachers after all...we'll see.

Anyone know when/how the TT "Access Pass" will be released?

You can pick up your pass at the preview next Tuesday. After that I don't know.

There will be no bleachers in south end zone. Looks like Tribe Tavern will have raised platform.

Confirmed with ticket office in early August - no bleachers under scoreboard. I've been sitting there since the 80s...looks like I'll have to use some sunscreen in the North End Zone...

20 year plan is, so far, on course now with Kaplan news. When will we see the Track moved to Dillard and (fingers crossed), the sinking of the field?

The video screen takes up the entire space of the old video screen plus the old scoreboard.
With the entire space being digital, I guess they can expand or shrink the video side and the scoreboard side whenever needed.
A replay on the full size screen should be easily visible now.
Across the top in bright yellow is "William and Mary" and across the
bottom is "Zable Stadium" in yellow.
I like it but we sure are spending lots of money.
Umm, pictures?

In this time, it may be troubling to see the spending. But I'm pretty sure, like the new field turf, it's old deals with already budgeted money. Much like the Kaplan renovation likely shouldn't be affected, IMO. I suppose we'll see if that changes.

Moved over just to keep the football thread for the season.

Found this re: price. We are lucky payment went through before the pandemic...was much needed, but would have likely been scrapped

Total aside, when looking into info about the new Zable scoreboard, I found an article about Walt Zable after his passing. I found it interesting that his company, Cubic, built the first electric sports scoreboard in 1966.
