Zable Stadium Renovation
With all of the space in the concourse, surprised they have not found a permanent home there for the Tribe retail gear, rather than hiding the trailer down behind the north endzone bleachers. May not be as convenient as loading the inventory and driving in for each game, but sales are driven by visibility and foot traffic.

RE: Zable Stadium Renovation
Has there been any discussion of bringing concerts to "new" Zable? I remember in the late 80's Jimmy Buffett came a couple times. I would think that the new upper deck, home sideline and field seating would be great. Set the stage up on the old press box side with the "cattle opening".

I went to the NFL HOF Induction this year and that is the way they had the stage set up for both the Tim McGraw concert (Friday night) and the Induction ceremony itself on Saturday.

They, funny enough, also have an opening at the 50 yard line in the rebuilt stadium in Canton. For the HOF game itself (that yes, never actually happened) they used that opening area as a beer garden/party area at the 50 yard line for the "scheduled" HOF game.

Anyway, back to the original question - any discussions of concerts? (I know locals that lived near the stadium griped about concerts before but that's the same group that probably griped about lights which have been there for over a decade now.)

Ditto..

I distinctly remember hearing of a "Spirit Shop" being part of the new stadium. I guess they decided to just have an extra concessions??? Seems odd to not sell Tribe Gear in the main concourse.

Also, the second levels by the endzones are horribly underutilized with the only thing there being the handicapped seating at the rails. Repurpose one side as spirit shop and other side as....biergarten...

I got a kick out of watching people walk into Zable via The Randolph gate (#2) and immediately make a move towards the archade and stop when they see the bathrooms are no longer there.
Last night at QB Club there was some rumblings regarding the long lines and only 3 people working the concessions stand on the the upper level . It was opening night and of course there are going to be a bump in the road and all in all things went about as smoothly as could be expected. Good job

I hope The Tribe Club or someone body took or will take an aerial picture of the new Zable similar to the one of Cary Field's first game. With this being Family Weekend and the stands should be full just be a better picture. If they did/do make it available for sale to all.

Someone flew a drone over the stadium last Saturday night in two separate flights. Appeared to be launched from the vicinity of Kaplan parking lot based on it's path away from the stadium. Whomever was responsible can't afford to publicly release any footage, or face serious repercussions, since flight over a crowd is still illegal without waiver signatures, was out of line of sight for whomever was piloting it, as well as, the second flight was after dusk. Type of reckless, irresponsible action that compromises a future burgeoning industry.

Agree. No machine is perfect: this drone, even from a distance, looked pretty large. Large or small, what if it had failed and plummeted into the crowd?

For anyone who is interested in what is/is not allowed per the FAA with regard to UAS:

https://www.faa.gov/uas/media/Part_107_Summary.pdf

Was not at game but from description, sounds like it did violate many regs.

Was it a drone or an ultralight? I did not see a drone, but saw the ultralight. Saw the drone last year.

Looked like a drone to me.

If it was an ultralight, then it was much, much higher than it appeared. Ultralights have the same basic restrictions of not flying after sunset and not flying over congested area or an open assembly of people.

Big Grin RE: Zable Stadium Renovation
If we're talking about what I think we are, there's no way it was a drone, it was way too big. Of course there are drones that are that big, but they're operated by people that don't really answer to the FAA...

I guess we can add the "Zable UFO" to the list of W&M quirks :)

First visit to Zable since renovation and it is amazing!! Unfortunately 8 minutes before kickoff and attendance is still pathetic. Why can we not put butts in seats?!?!?

Family Weekend ticket buyers are more likely to skip the game, I think, or at least foul up the normal parking to delay the usual suspects. Walking to the game I could have sworn it was going to rain, even though the forecast was clean and it didn't do more than threaten.

Official attendance is 10021...New West stands were filled and students did show up for first half. They don't count tickets sold; get attendance figure from tickets counted at the gates so the figure is legit.

10000 for Elon pretty good in my estimation. Too bad we all 10000 had to sit through such a moribund, almost catatonic, W&M performance!

RE: Zable Stadium Renovation
One of the things I've noticed over the years since the lights went in, and it was reaffirmed watching on TV on Saturday, is how dark the stadium looks on TV. The lights we have provide enough illumiation to the field, but when you start showing it on TV, it can look a bit dark. It would be great to increase the lighting, whether by adding more to the existing poles we have or installing a couple more.
