This is a fun tread for teams in the polls.

I just emailed Brett Strelow of the Fayetteville Observer and thanked him for his #25 vote, I work in Fayetteville and regularly read his college basketball columns.

I'm really surprised this is the first time ODU has been in the top 25. They've had some really good teams.

January 31st is alumni night and even though its against FAU will probably be a sellout. I'll be watching in one of the suites that night.

Number 19 seton hall was in that paradise jam tourney.

We didn't get a chance to play them because Gardner Webb beat them in the first round.

That tournament had us, lsu, Ill St. and seton hall in it, it was a much better tourney than any of us thought it was at the time.

Problem is that Ill St lost to rpi 200+ Ind State at HOME. Ugggh.

That was such a weird game. Jones has been MONEY in pre-game preparation, and that was the one game where our boys were totally unprepared for the zone they faced. Clearly an anomaly, but odd considering Jones' track record of having our boys prepared for what they were about to face.

The short turnaround after the LSU game likely contributed to their lack of preparation for Ill St.. Tired legs also probably contributed as it was the beginning of the season and they likely weren't in the game shape they are in today.

Was JMU under Lefty ever ranked?
GMU and VCU are relatively recent additions. I don't remember VCU being ranked under JD Barnett, even if UR was under Tarrant and of that I am not even sure.
UVA was usually ranked in the '80s
I don't remember UR or VCU being ranked during the Larranaga era at GMU

Probably 2011 is the most likely year maybe?
I think UR was ranked at the end of both 2010 and 2011 and VCU was in 2011; and I think UVA was as well?

Here is a site that lists all teams that have ever been ranked. It was updated today and includes ODU (somebody is paying attention!!)

VCU was ranked in 83-84 for one week. In 84-85 VCU was ranked for eight weeks, including the final ranking at 11. Then it was a long time until VCU was ranked again. The rest are all recent.

If you guys can pull out a couple more wins before you lose (if you lose), then get up to the top 18 or 20, I think you can hold on for a while. Your SOS is going to take a hit because the conference is so weak, but I think you can stand a couple losses (on the road against good teams) and as long as they are later in the year. I saw a site tonight that rates you at an 85% chance of making the Tournament, as of now. Not bad.

Maybe we will get to play in the Sweet 16. Don't think they would match us up until at least then...

Seton Hall did not lose to G-W. G-W beat Clemson in the first game. G-W lost to Seton Hall who beat Ill. State for the tourney championship.

I think it also had a lot to do with the win over LSU. After that win they were on cloud nine and had the feeling they had just slayed the dragon. In hindsight It may have been a good thing going forward. That loss forced them to be grounded. Wow I would love to have that one game back,

Ahh my mistake, thanks for clarifying.

Regardless, it was still a much deeper more talented tourney than any of us knew at the time.

Those two VT and GMU sad faces made me lose.

If we had beat Ill State, we'd have played Seton Hall. GW beat Clemson.

Those Ill St. games happen to everyone. We will likely have another one of those games this year. Even Kentucky and Duke will likely have a game like that. We just need to hope it is either against someone that is good enough that it won't kill our resume or bad enough that we can persevere and survive with a W. Can't afford a game like that against someone like Western Kentucky or Empty Sue.
