Time to begin recruiting Bruce Pearl

Don't shoot the messenger, I feel Josh has to go because of public perception of him in Memphis is going to hamper recruiting and season ticket sales next year.

Point one is silly to me. Money and ego are the main things that matter to 99% of these guys. Second point I agree with tho

It will be negotiated between all parties behind the scenes & presented as a voluntary step down for CJP or else be publicly disgraced with a very public & messy firing. A fake coaching search will be put on for 2 weeks & then Pearl will be introduced as our coach the Thursday before the final four.

CJP will be the upstanding man he is & in his farewell speech say that he didn't live up to the mid level expectations of our fans (sweet 16's with 5* players) & the occasional elite 8 or better. He'll thank memphis for the opportunity & recognize the fans as the best in America, he'll bid farewell & disappear into the world of espn & dick vitale.

No he won't. He'll take his buyout and become a UK assistant. Cal has already promised him that if it doesn't work out at Memphis...that he will hire Josh in a split second.

How much better can the recruiting get at Kentucky than it already is?

Cal could run the team himself.. He doesn't even need assistants.. He will always get the best players even if he is Coaching at Podunk State.. To me the One and Dones are ruining College basketball.. He would not be as near as successful without it!!

He doesn't need assistants? You clearly have a grasp on the inner workings of recruiting.

Oh so you really feel he wouldn't get pretty much anyone he wanted without his assistants.. His assistants don't get him his players someone by the initials WWW does.. By the way I was being sarcastic about Assistants everyone needs them in some way form or fashion..

You have to give him this year after what he has done, albeit most of his record was in subpar CUSA. Every coach has a bad year now and then.

But we do need to get back to a deep run in the NCAA before it has been 10 years of being in the Elite 8.

Tough call.

Slow and steady slippage... Longer we wait, worse off we will be.

As much as I hate the losses we have had this year, I will be patient with Josh. He has earned it.

On the note that a well respected and proven coach will come to Memphis with these basket case fans is wishful thinking.

Apparently you don't see it, but don't you think those same coaches see our continued downward trend and how terrible we are?

I agree this team isn't very good but one season does not make a trend.

RE: Time to begin recruiting Bruce Pearl
On point one, see Bobby Petrino and Western Kentucky/Louisville. Western Kentucky brought him out of coaching purgatory and he bolted after one season to go back to Louisville. Tom Jurich, one of the best ADs in the nation, had no problem pulling the trigger on that to upgrade the program. I think Tom Bowen would do the same if they get rid of Pastner and Pearl is interested.

I agree , why bring in a known cheater ? Have we not had enough problems with the NCAA's ?03-pissed

That's what Kentucky said until they got Cal right? Turned out pretty good.

Yep. Winning cures a lot of ills.

25-10

31-5
24-10

That is the past 4 year records.

Let me ask this, are you one of the ones that expected Josh to maintain 35-3 every year when he was hired?

Big chasm between 35-3 and double digit loss seasons, losing to Tulane SFA and CBU, and the number of losses that are blowouts.

I agree Pastner needs to go, I've been saying this for a while but I wouldn't take Pearl. Pearl is a cheater (heck of a coach) but he's dirty. You guys can do a lot better than that.

Anytime an opposing fan tells you not to take a coach it's because they're scared what you'll do with the coach

LOL by all means...take him. It just means more banners come down one day but hey, if you're cool with it, so am I.

I'd rAther the banner come down than not to have it.

But seriously, "vacated wins" what a joke. Nobody cares what the ncaa says about whether it happened or not.

Can't argue that. I don't know how much stock I put in to this season though. We only have 2 guys on the roster that have seen, up until this year, meaningful NCAA minutes. While the season is extremely frustrating it isn't far fetched/entirely unrealistic.

Pastner is not in a normal position. If you can't see the downward trajectory of recruiting and the program you're blind. Everyone else sees it too

RE: Time to begin recruiting Bruce Pearl
I guess people just watch games differently.

I think there are different categories that apply to how we as fans view games, players, coaches, etc.

You've got old ex-athletes/coaches who may have had some level of success at one time, watching.
Then there are people who may have played at young ages but found other areas of interest, watching
Next may be people who just have a bit of knowledge and love sports, watching
Then maybe there are lifetime fans who never played much of anything, watching
Next there are folks who watch because it's kind of the thing to do and place to be
Lastly some folks just use games as a source for entertainment, just like the movies or plays or whatever watching.

Each of those categories bring out different perspectives and each very different. The "hey, we're winning so what's the problem" folks will have vastly differing opinions then the "that horrible defense is going to catch up to us soon" folks.
