However, I have this strange feeling that you'll hire Chase Conque as AD and make a huge mistake.
What was the background of the ASU AD? Do I recall that he had no experience as an AD prior to taking the ASU job? Seems to me he's done a pretty darn good job so far.
Mohajir was an Assistant AD at Kansas and FAU who graduated from ASU, meaning he knew the school and area better than most.
Its not that I think that Conque isnt qualified because he's never been an AD, I just dont know if hiring a guy with little experience in Athletics to run a D1 athletic program is a smart thing.
Thank you for clearing up Moajir's background. I was mistakenly under the impression that he had no AD background, but being an assistant AD at Kansas and FAU, he did have some background.
I think Mohajir was a great hire for you guys. Having someone who truly loves and cares about the school, city, and program is priceless. I had hoped Derek Fisher might come back and take the job. Off-hand can't think of another ex-UALR athlete who could fit the bill. It often bothers me that most athletic department employees really don't care about the school and program as much as us fans. It's a job, which they would leave if they get a better offer. I'm not leaving. I have a feeling Mohajir isn't either (or, at least, it would take an offer than no one could refuse for him to leave ASU). That's who you want as your school's AD.
Arkstfan was talking on our board about how he did an interview with Terry and started teasing him about open AD jobs, and the response he got was "It's my school man"
We've gotten really lucky with administration hires the last few years. Chancellor isnt even from Arkansas, but has really come in and adapted to life here. System President is actually a Razorback Grad, but he's been one of our best system presidents in a long time. In his three years here he has worked behind the scenes to hire our last 3 football coaches, including Malzahn. He led the search that landed us Mohajir as an AD, we're about to open a medical school and extension campus in Mexico in the next couple years, and we've set records for donations each of the last three years.
Jonesboro has unique advantages to Little Rock obviously. We're a Texas High School Football type town where the community is entirely behind the school. (Trooper Taylor tells the story of the day he got into town after being hired, he went in to Wal Mart at 1am to get a tooth brush and tooth paste, and spent the next 45 minutes taking pictures and signing autographs with fans and employees.
You guys may never be able to model what we do because we're two very unique institutions, and UAF has way too much control, but if you simply had administrators who cared deeply about your school, and didnt see it as a paycheck, you'd see growth, and you'd see it very quickly.
By the way, it still bugs me that despite growing up in Little Rock and living there for the first 18 years of my life, and sending you guys numerous ACT scores, I never got a recruitment letter from UALR. Now that was 11 years ago, and its changed a lot since I've got family who go to school there now, but I found it alarming that you guys weren't practically loitering the Central Arkansas High Schools looking for students.
