Some New Year's Wishes for Our Tribe
FOOTBALL:
*Somebody, perhaps the guy that played this year or somebody else, to
play the position the way Jimmye's qbs used to

*Another blazer like Dedmon at the other flanker to stop teams from
concentrating on Devonte (which they will if we don't find one)

*A tight end

*A healthy offensive line all season

*One more defensive back to take over a position

*All green uniforms--the players love them

BASKETBALL-MEN

*Once and for all-the NCAA Tourney

*Omar to find his form of last season

*Thornton to break W&M's scoring record...for that matter, Tony to recruit another like him from somewhere

*A home game with a UVA, Va Tech...other schools like us do it...why can't we?

*Start playing complete games

BASKETBALL-WOMEN

*Another good recruiting class, his second, for Swanson's building program

*A winning finish as CAA play starts..the ladies to win more than half their games in ages

BASEBALL

*One more dominating hurler

*A first baseman to replace Katz and a power-hitting outfielder

*Money to televise the home baseball games on our web pages for this climbing W&M program

TRACK & FIELD

*Can we ever recruit a top sprinter for both the men and women?

VOLLEYBALL

*At least nine scholarships--some say as many as thirteen- in this program but our teams continuously are awful. Find some ladies who can play or terminate the sport and give all those scholarships to ladies in other, successful sports

SOCCER-MEM

*Some senior leadership players..the team had none this past season
from the seniors

*A dominating offensive scorer; two to be perfectly greedy

*For that matter, get to know how to score goals again..in some games the opposition didn't even need a goalie

SOCCER-WOMEN

*A rugged, dominating mid-fielder

TENNIS-MEN AND WOMEN

*Once a premier sport at W&M, we're not getting elite players we
used to get...lots of scholarship's here

*A CAA championship and return to NCAAs

FIELD HOCKEY

*A couple of top-level scorers

LACROSSE

*A CAA championship and NCAA appearance this year for a sport that is
getting better each year

TRIBE ATHLETICS

*Let's put bleachers back in the plans for our refurbished Zable

*Can't we close off about 3,000 seats in Kaplan Arena with curtains
or, better yet, take them out and replace with some luxury boxes
that can be removed for graduation events

*An indoor batting/pitching/workout area for the baseball program..
it is badly needed.

*Finally---a NewYear's hope for bushels of wins for our guys and gals

Very impressed with Richmond's redesign of the Robins Center upper level with the open social/lounge/party platform areas in all four corners, and the video displays and decorative banners filling the gaps...nothing wrong with copying, and would greatly enhance the Kaplan experience. Would be relatively inexpensive to use roll-up W&M decorative banner/curtains, rather than just black curtains, to close off upper levels during games. Also, helps to visually "brand" the school and athletic programs when there is TV exposure.

+1 on the copycat. Arent all good arenas pretty much the same anyway? Lets hope the major renovation $$ listed in the 20 year plan are enough to do this and more. Would love to fill in the empty space behind the basket.

One other wish would be for us to add men's lacrosse. Would love to see that at the college.

And I'm not sure how feasabble removable luxury boxes are. But maybe for graduation we could get temporary bleachers to fill in the rest of the arena?

Tyler Klaus committed for 2015

Caskin, Hensley and Scheetz all with experience. Caskin probably the front runner. Position of depth going forward.

WR: Kevin Hart, Flynn Heald are good route runners. Not sure if they have the speed that Dedmon possesses, but good routes can compensate for some of that speed.

Look for the freshman Jack Armstrong as well. Has the speed, but not as elusive as Dedmon.

I like Caskins, he's an aggressive blocker and has proved he can get open, soft hands too. Gotta keep him healthy though.

DB, Dykes got some time as a freshman, made some plays while in there. He could step up as another DB.

I really like the way Reed played this year. Undersized, but played his position well. Swinton also had a nice year in situational plays.

Rae Smith DB, Goodwyn at S,freshman will challenge as well.

Hart has real speed. Armstrong will get his look but the freshman to watch is David Carlisle.

I hope all of these freshmen get looks, I hope the incoming freshmen push this last group. It will only benefit the team in the long run. Previous classes had athletes, but this class and this next one seem to have more.

That said, some of these guys on paper pass the eye test. Eye tests don't win games. Learning the playbook, running precise routes, improving technique, is something all freshmen have to adjust to. In high school you can get by being more athletic, at this level it's not enough. Some are doing it better than others. This winter and spring will give each of them a chance separate themselves.

So to get back to the topic, my wish is that all of these guys will transition to college ball quickly. Hopefully all of them will.

My wish is that Cluely improves as much as he did from Spring game to Richmond by the time the season starts. I actually think he can be real good if he keeps improving. He had flashes of brilliance.
