I'd rather turn corners into safeties... Not too many guys can make the transition from safety to corner. Its a very different skill set.

Yeah, but it seems like our corners are usually too short to be safeties (for that matter, sometimes our safeties are, too). Des being an exception. Skills can be taught, though, right?

Aren't corners generally faster, quicker and lighter than safeties? Does seem easier to turn a corner into a safety, by putting strength on. Not sure at that age, how much faster you can train a player. By that time, I think they either have it or don't.

Need tall and fast.

We need to be going to Jamaica man. Getting us some Bolts and teaching them the game, do a little bob-sleddin in winter.

That would work if you brought back Men's Track and Field.

Going to be D II guys with more dedication, better attitude and overall skills that the pros will go after. Just an opinion from watching him on the field and on the bench.

those are the guys who last in the nfl not the ones they draft. lance moore was all of that and crazy productive but didn't get drafted cuz he was 5-10 and ran a 4.6. he has had a long career tho.

russell has the size, speed, hands and enough highlight plays to get drafted. his inconsistency and routes will make him slip out the big money, but i see him going in the middle of the draft if healthy.
Pono explains exactly why I made the statement he will be drafted.

RE: Football Mid-Year Signees
With Owens/Dantin throwing, Russell had 56 catches in 2012
With primarily Owens throwing, he had 59 catches in 2013
With primarily Woodside throwing, he had 47 catches in 2014

With Owens/Dantin throwing, Russell averaged about two yard more per catch than other years. Owens in particular, threw more deep balls to Russell.

I think "skills" are more of the God given nature. Speed, quickness, ability turn, flip your hips and redirect ect.. Technique can be taught to help maximize or improve a skill set. Safeties tend to be a little stiffer, more like a smaller linebacker with straight line speed. I think to your point, we need to be recruiting taller, faster corners.. unfortunately they are tough to find and tend to go the P5 schools. Des was a great example of taller corner that could easily have played safety.. I think he did didn't he? On the other hand, as good as Barry Church was, he probably wouldn't have been as successful at corner in College. Don't get me wrong, he could have played corner and been successful in the MAC , but his skill set was ideal for a Safety at all levels. In the NFL, corners as they age and lose a step sometimes transition to Safety. Very rarely do you see a Safety transition to a corner.
