Got the thrill of being on the PA for the event where ODU won a midlands title for the first time. ODU had a great cheering section. lots of Dechow fans. I think ODU has four wins over Iowa wrestlers, something I don't think that's ever happened.

how about that Indiana kid who pinned his way to the title? 4 matches; 4 pins. impressive.

Haven't seen a pinner like that since Scott Moore (UVA) about a decade ago.

Explain unattached wrestlers---is this not a sanctioned NCAA event? How's that work?

Some tournaments allow for unattached wrestlers, which allows those wrestlers training at outside clubs to compete. Redshirts at the big programs typically wrestle under the auspice of their Olympic wrestling club, i.e., Finger Lakes Wrestling Club (Cornell), Hawkeye WC (Iowa), Minnesota Storm WC (Minnesota), etc. Even ODU has the Hampton Roads Wrestling Academy. Basically, if you register & fund your own expenses, these unattached events don't count against your eligibility because you did not officially represent your school or contribute to their team score.
