I'm an atheist but my federally approved calendar says today is a national holiday called Christmas. So Merry Christmas.

Anyone who thinks America, or any other western nation, celebrates Christmas as a religious holiday is in complete denial. Certain people may celebrate it as a religious holiday, but as a nation we do not. Its roots are in paganism, and it currently resides in consumerism. Sorry christianity, you lose again.

So Christmas has nothing to do with religion? It has as much religious significance as Flag Day (June 14)?

Do you even live in the U.S.? I think you're in Europe, working for a fringe leftist party.

I did not say it has nothing to do with religion. Try again.

Until CHRISTmas is completely replaced with the more consumerism oriented Happy Holidays, Christians still win since the statement Merry Christmas acknowledges the reason for the season.

so....

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Most people acknowledge it as a Christian holiday and celebrate it as a Christian holiday.

Like it or not, Christians are a majority in the U.S. ... 77% of Americans are Christian. That obviously leaves 23% for every other option.

It's a time to be friendly and spread holiday cheer. This thread was started in kindness. It should stay that way.

Yep. So, in keeping with the spirit of the OP, I don't wish you some enjoyment of absurd pagan solstice festivities. Instead, Merry Christmas to you.

True dat. But then some people inevitably mock Christianity. It happens every time; they can't control themselves.

RE: Merry Christmas
It has been a very good Christmas. My wife has been out of the Hospital and Skilled Nursing facility for exactly one month after being in one or the other since mid-September. We are blessed that she is alive and with the strength of faith are taking one day at a time. My daughter is home from ECU for two more weeks. We are spending time with our extended family over the next few days. Our friends over the last three months have shown us great love and support. How could it be anything but a Merry Christmas. I hope all of you have a great Holiday.
