I don't think we would smoke Boise, but if both teams were 100% healthy (read as, if Devon Johnson was 100% healthy) i do believe we would beat them. The reason we didn't look as good the last three games was Johnson being hurt. You guys got a little taste of what he can do tonight, but he was only about 75% and favoring his bad shoulder. His style and our offensive line were just a perfect match.

Seriously going to split hairs on a NIU board about this? I'm sorry, yes, we were in I-AA. I attended MU during the time we made the switch to division 1. We generally called I-AA division 2 as a synonym, as it was the 2nd tier in college football. I didn't even know there was such a thing as the terrible actual Division 2 until I just Googled it. Sorry to use the terms interchangeably.

Are you nuts...Boise is clearly the best of the G5 teams this year. Marshall is not built to sustain and will be lucky to win 9 games next season.

Yea you sound ignorant and will look even more ignorant this time next year. Our team is absolutley stacked for next year. The QBs we have waiting to battle it out could possibly be better than Cato by the time they are done. It will be tough but they are all very talented and winners just like Cato. Go watch tape on Chase Litton.

We do lose Shuler and Wilki s fro the WR copr but all the others are freshman. #15 and #16 were both two of the most heralded WRs in the nation coming out of high school and prep school. #2 will be able to take right ovwr for Shuler. Not as craft as Shu but is faster and more athletic with good hands.

We lose our center but have one best center coming out in the 2014 class in Nathaniel Deavers that the ciaches said could have played day one.

On defense we lose our DT James Rouse #11, DE Arnold Blackmon #90 but their replacements are very talented. One freshman whonplayed a little this season in Jerome Dews has one of the quickest get offs and will be a terror in the future. He was slated to go to Tennessee until they went full retard and tried to push him back a year. We also get a treansfer DE from UCF that was one of the best sack men in the country before he left the team.

We lose Jermaine Holmes #49 and Neville Hewitt #6 LB but have studs that are redshirted and get our best LB Evan McKelvey back next season and a transfer from Maryland.

We only lone Darryl Roberts #7 from the secondary. Everyone else returns and we add some studs.

You can wish all you want that Marshall won't continue to be good ina an attempt to lessen the sting og tonights loss but as long as Doc Holliday is the coach at Marshall we won't be going anywhere for a while.

And we would beat down Gerogia Southern. Same deal as tonight. Running based offenses can't hang with us if our offense clicks. WKU beat us because they could go blow for blow with us. Slow methodical offenses can't keep pace once we get going.

The the rest of the NIU fans congratulations on a great season. You guys are champions of your league and every other team in thr MAC would kill to trade places with you.

While you QB was a bit shaky at time tonight he looks to have some promise and you all look like a very well coached team. You all will most likely be the class of the MAC for a while. Just don't let OHIO every replace you guys.

After reading your post I have to amend my earlier statement. You will be lucky to win 8 games next season. Now go brush your tooth and go to bed!

If you said that to any other Marshall fan I would attempt to defend him, but it's Bleeds, so go for it.

Game over. Marshall won this one convincingly. Be nice if we could get you guys on our regular season schedule since our athletic director seems to have a love affair with the MAC. Good luck next year.

RE: Boca Raton Bowl Game Thread: NIU vs. Marshall
Nothing to do but tip your cap to Marshall tonight. They played an almost perfect game. I was there and I can recall 1, maybe 2 penalties on Marshall's offense. 1 dropped pass, zero turn overs. NIU was sloppy, offensive penalties, missed fg, Kick off return, really senseless pass interference on crucial 3rd down that lead to a Herd td. The Huskies don't have the offense to give Marshall 17 points that they didn't have to earn (they absolutely earned the other 35). Cato was dead on tonight. Catch a great QB when he's on fire and you're in trouble. The team with the better QB usually wins. Such was the case tonight. The team stats were almost even, but it's about making a few big plays. Marshall made all the big play. The only talent differential I saw was at QB, and OC.

In addition, the Marshall fan's at the game were all very cordial. Ignore the 7 or 8 blow hards on any of their message board. There's always that 5% that talk crap. Good team, good fans.

We have good football teams too. You learned that the hard way. Talking a little football smack is one thing, but the constant bashing of WV is why most of us hate the MAC so much.

Lighten up Francis. I happen to like to West Virginia. Way better weather and traffic than Chicago. Just bustin' some balls. I wish NIU would have given us fans a chance to gloat on something beyond way too much Wal Mart and Cousin love. Marshall was clearly the better team today. I'm sure most of us NIU fans, me for sure, wish they could escape the MAC to a better conference. How about we escape with Marshall to the AAC (maybe we could bring Turdledo too?) The MAC and CUSA are clearly not the answer.

I watched the entire game and hoped NIU would win. Obviously Marshall has a high powered offense and I thought there were moments that NIU D kept them intact but then they would pass/take chances when they needed too. The NIU offense also took chances but mainly only when they had too on third down (made some nice drive saving conversions) and then not additionally until the 2nd half but it was too little too late. It seems like Carey coached the offense like he was playing the 4th string QB at Toledo and only needed to win 24 to 21. The game plan seemed no different as I watched that game too. To me the game plan needed to be different and Carey laid an egg on coaching to keep up with a team that was scoring over 40 points per game. Sorry about the loss!

I thought I saw a couple of people post the game was sold out. The crowd was a little disappointing. But the stadium looked nice.

Yea they acted like most of the tickets were sold but it looked like the stadium was only half full. I wasn't there but I believe the weather was fine and all that.

ESPN said it was just over 15,000 in a 30,000 seat stadium

Confused where the calls for the sell-out were coming from.

Tough loss Huskies, hopefully you can get that bowl win next year.

"The game drew a crowd of less than 15,000 in Florida Atlantic's 30,000-seat stadium, but both coaches praised the inaugural event." ESPN RECAP

ATTENDANCE: 29,419 is whats listed. So maybe really was sold out ticketwise but butts in the seat viewpoint is what they are talking about.

I would like to see NIU replace UAB in cusa. Double your TV revenue and little more bowl money. (Dont let the travel cost myth dispel you. You would make more money in CUSA) and you don't play on espn3 every week.

NIU would make cusa the best g5 conference IMO. We are already #2/3 basically dead even with AAC. I think NIU pushes us to the MWC level. Toledo can stay in toledo.

Not really. Marshall's the best team the CUSA has had in a long time. This is the worst NIU team in 5 years.

You mean AAC being lateral? I think only MD claims that. The star WR, QB, and RB on Marshall are seniors. They wont be good next year.

Very good team this year though.

None of our RBs are seniors.. We get them all back next year including the big back #47.. We do lose Cato and Shuler however, we get the rest of our receiving core back next year including #15 & #16 who were freshman this year.. On defense we don't lose much the biggest loss on that side is #7 our CB.. We will have a pretty good team again next year if we can find someone to step up in place of Cato.. That's a big IF though

CUSA is still a little step up from the MAC, maybe more than a little this year since the MAC is down. Western Kentucky is good and so is LaTech.

In the eyes of the CFB world it is a major step up. And in reality it is also a major step up.
