Both teams looked like thugs yesterday IMO.

I was quoting the famous Rick Minter line after our fight with
Hawaii... "this is a disgrace".

I could not tell who started it... But it was the BYU player that
hit the Memphis guy from behind...[/u]

The coaches should lose any bonuses that they are to get.

The AAC has absolutely NO jurisdiction. Nor should they.

I did not say he was nor did I think he acted that way. I asked a question. I thought UC was overly harsh on our players and X was overly lenient. The X players started things.

Now back to Mem-BYU. Both teams acted bad but seeing a Memphis player swinging a helmet and hitting others with it might be considered a lethal weapon on the streets.

Someone said the AAC has no jurisdiction? If not the AAC needs some new rules. Memphis was representing the AAC. Great for the image.

You called them, "Memphis thugs", do you really think they are thugs?

Not only am I glad you aren't running the show at UC (as I've said a couple times) but I'm sure Memphis fans are glad you aren't running their program as well.
So Mick did the wrong thing suspending players after the X brawl?

Absolutely NOT! He did the best thing possible. And although I stop short of branding the Memphis (or BYU) folks as "thugs", I do think the AAC needs to send a message - one that would parallel Mick's after the XU fiasco BTW - by doing what dossbig suggests. There is a huge difference between defending oneself and unabashed participation (no pun intended). Lead by example. As much as I was impressed by Mick's handling of the situation as much as defended Yancy (rightfully so IMO), I was more embarrassed that "MY" team allowed itself to become embroiled in the fight in the first place. Let's hope Memphis responds as well, off the field and on it, as the Bearcat team did. Unfortunately for them, they don't have a chance to play again "next week" so this will hang out there for 7 or 8 months and get dragged out again next season.

And FYI, I omit the BYU players and coaches from any AAC led disciplanary action because they, unlike Memphis, are not AAC members and thus I could care less what the perception of their league/conf is. Memphis is an AAC member and the AAC needs to send a message to every team in every sport that this behavior will not be tolerated UNLESS Memphis is willing to proactively act (individually or in a joint effort with the AAC administration) in a manner that sends the same message

RE: Memphis / BYU in the Miami Beach Bowl 12/22
If you try to hit a dude with a helmet, you've crossed over from athlete to thug, at least in that moment. It doesn't mean they're evil, but it does mean they did something really, really wrong and they need to pay for it.

The same goes for the BYU guy running around and hitting people in the back of the head. Just totally out of line. That's not even fighting, it's just criminal thuggery.

Many of us have gotten into fights either in sports or on the street. It happens. But when you escalate to weapons and cheap shots, you've reached a new low.

...As video clips of BYU players fighting with Memphis players after the Tigers’ 55-48 victory in double overtime went viral and made their way across media outlets across the country, BYU athletic director Tom Holmoe issued an apology on Twitter.

"We expect better of our athletes, even in the face of a difficult loss," Holmoe wrote. "We intend to fully review this matter. I apologize to Cougar Nation."

The ugliness erupted after Memphis’ DaShaughn Terry intercepted Christian Stewart’s pass to end the game.

The brawl appeared to have erupted after helmeted BYU center Tejan Koroma bumped helmet-less Memphis defensive end Martin Ifedi in the head...

I don't care how the BYU players acted, as they are not in our crap conference, Memphis is. What thugs I saw was at least one Memphis player taking off his helmet and using it as a weapon. Yes the BYU players swung some fists, if you keep your equipment on punching another player in all likelihood will only result in you hurting your hand or wrist. Swinging a helmet generates a huge force that can injure seriously. The AAC needs to step up if Memphis does not.

I do not care about BYU until we play them, next year I think.

The players in question are either seniors or not big rotation player aka freshmen. There were 4 of our players throwing punches and really a bunch of pushing and jawing from others. It really was a few individuals that acted violently. Punishment will be administered but it seems like no one we are relying heavily next season was involved in any of the stupid stuff.

Neutral announcers said "Memphis threw the first punch". Memphis went over to celebrate in front of the BYU bench.

Watch and listen on youtube.

The fans were behind BYUs bench. The team has always celebrated with the band and fans after a win. It's something Fuente has started here.

Fuente said "That's not who we are." Who else is found of that statement?
