Already rumblings that this is another area where Watts is acting as a dictator attempting to exclude stakeholders from the Dean selection process.

I can understand that, and it may be true. OTOH, he's 71 and has been teaching for 42 years. Everything is not enemy action.

I think hooverblazer was referring to the hiring of his replacement, not so much his retirement.

That is correct.

And there will be many more retiring. Some due to age but more because they can't handle this dumpster fire anymore.

That's the hidden cost of all this, the lost of our best and brightest who don't want to deal with working at a train wreck or watching as what was built over the last twenty five years is systematically dismantled.

Which then allows Watts to handpick toadies to replace them with which bow to him and his agenda.

And nobody worth a damn is going to want to replace them.

The thing is that this process has been ongoing for quite some time and we really have not been aware of it until we got our noses rubbed in it. If we don't fight like hell for UAB, we'll be the UA medical extension center and an internet diploma mill.

I'm glad you pointed out the potential loss of "the best and the brightest" due to having to deal with "a train wreck" and the "systematic dismantling" of a valuable institution. UAB is not the only educational institution at risk in Alabama.
