By TIM PEARRELL Richmond Times-Dispatch

Few teams from high-major conferences have been willing to schedule a home-and-home series with VCU, but Cincinnati coach Mick Cronin said he did it for a couple of reasons.

The first is national television. Today’s game at Cincinnati will be aired on ESPNU at noon.

“Our scheduling philosophy is, when we search for quality nonleague games, we want national television,” Cronin said. “That speaks to where VCU is, that ESPN wants them. They consider Cincinnati-VCU a quality game to put on national television.”

The second is sophomore point guard Troy Caupain and redshirt freshman wing guard Deshaun Morman will get a chance to play at home. Caupain played at Cosby. Morman played at Meadowbrook before moving to Coolidge High in Washington and then going to prep school at Faith Baptist Christian in Bradenton, Fla.
