This sounds a lot like what Watts keeps saying in this comments and emails he's been putting out. Makes you wonder if the current NAS president, Wes Smith, is just a Watts lacky. I know past NAS presidents and have talked to them myself about the situation. No way they are truely represented in this statement.

Could it be that since it is under the uab website that it can't be too critical?

I emailed my displeasure and withdrawal of financial support over that. I also explained how they could earn it back and further unite the alumni and students, asking them not to waste the opportunity to make the UAB NAS stronger than ever.

The NAS is just a department of the University. It's not an independent group with its own voice. They report to the same people the athletics department does.

Then I think it's time for an organized Alumni Group outside of university control...

I know some NAS people, and they're good people, but their organization is a gelding.

The NAS is a joke. They are part of the problem.

When I read the article i saw another headline article regarding online crowd funding. Here is another idea......we need an event the alumni and community can be proud of.....one they can participate in.....an event that meets regularly......an event that young and old, men and women, black and white can enjoy and talk about......one that puts our name in the Sunday paper across the country for 13Sundays a year........what one event could do such a thing plus bring new students and donations to the university......what would such a wonderful thing be called.....most schools call it football!

AL Dept of Revenue blames the NAS. The NAS blames Revenue.

I still think the NAS has been weak throughout this ordeal just like they were weak in not getting up a tag with Blaze on it.

Are we gonna get a new one in 2015? It would be pretty darn fair of them to do something like that after this controversy...

But an even bigger question is "are there tag exchanges in January, or will it be February or March?" If I remember correctly, tags don't actually change until March...

I was told 10 days ago that someone who return my call to the NAS. I asked for someone to call me to explain why I should renew my membership. I was told someone would call the next day... Still waiting.

It is probably because there is no one at NAS who can give any UAB football fan any good reason to continue their dues paying for a still conjectural level of conference sports. As such a one-sport fan, I am also not greatly motivated right now to send them my money for what may be left to cheer for after this spring. The BOT, Dr Ray Watts and their cronies may have saved me well over a thousand dollars in 2015.

BTW, I miss Paul Kabbes (he answered his phone and promptly returned your calls) and wonder if his departure may have been "handwriting on the wall" for UAB sports.

The NAS has to be one of the most inefficient offices at UAB.
