True both are critical, but I think butts in the seats is more important right now. I is all perception. National viewers seeing and hearing a excited fan base means a lot.

There is a growing contingent of UC fans (that I talk to at the games) who are beginning to believe that Mick's posse needs to go.

Larry has been our best and most consistent recruiter. Replacing him with someone who could fill those shoes would be extremely difficult. The guys on the roster right now who he was responsible for are Clark, Caupain, DeBerry, and Ellis.

You should find a smarter group of fans to talk to at games.

Actually, I think the "smarter group of fans" stopped buying tix a few years ago.

Losing Larry Davis would be a big loss.

Oh I forgot he has two more coming next year.....Excuse after excuse .... A team full of roll players. Someone eventually has to take charge.

Yup... Pass the blame game.

When problems persist year after year it is the fault of coaching. Whether that is a failure of coaching to develop players or a failure of coaching to recruit players who fit the teams needs.

It seems like a failure of coaching to develop players offensively. Which has got to scare off a good number of recruits (come to UC and you will be known as a tough, defensive-minded player who can't hit a shot! - not quite the resume a player hoping to make the NBA will want).

If Shaq could hit threes and jump shots at a reasonable rate (say 30-35% from 3) it would open up his dribble drive game a lot and make him a much better player. That's been obvious for 2 years, but somehow he still can't, that's on coaching.

Sanders shot takes forever to release, you'd think some coach would have worked with him on that by now. Nope. It seems like we have no coach who can teach players how to shoot.

Failure to improve players individually on offense (with a few exceptions) and failure to improve team offense (with virtually no exceptions) has got to be on the coaches. Every year you can find an excuse, but the fact that we need an excuse every year for why the offense sucks says that it's time to start questioning if Mick should remain the coach.

I have to think that recruits are looking at UC as a team that has stagnated and that won't help them develop their offensive game (and if they are hoping to get a shot at the NBA, they need at least some offensive ability). If that's the case it's going to get more and more difficult each year to find recruits who want to come here (unless a coaching change is made).

RE: VCU Game
I am going to refrain from criticism of our coaching until we find out more information about Coach Cronin's condition. While I have bemoaned our offensive woes many times, I have no doubt in my mind that Coach cares about the university and the basketball program more than anyone and we are lucky to have him.

We have a very winnable game Tuesday against Wagner, then a week off to prepare NC State, which is also a game I think we can win. Let's finish this chapter of our non-conference slate (not including Xavier) 9-3 and try to win this league.

Welcome.

And an excellent first post I might add.

Minutes before the game a bunch of 18-21 year olds were told in the locker room by their coach and leader that he had suffered an incredibly serious neuro-vascular injury and that he would not be coaching them that night and for a length of time forward he couldn't predict.

And an experienced assistant learned that he not only had the reins for the night (with no preparation) and might have going forward for potentially most if not all the remaninder of the season.

Gee I wonder why the team looked scattered and unfocused?

Gee I wonder why the assistant who just learned he was the interim HC wasn't exactly in fluid rhythm with game management and time outs.

And a whole bunch of posters bemoaning the way it used to be and talking about their former tickets and former donor status (HERE IS A HINT - NO ONE FU**ING CARES).

And yet there are how many posts even acknowledging the fact that our HC has an incredibly serious vascular injury??

RE: VCU Game
My knowledge of basketball is limited. Sure, I have watched it for over thirty five years, but my opinion is still very limited. The funny thing, there are some posters that make me look like a genius. Presently, we start one freshman, a junior college transfer, two sophomores and a junior with experience. Most of these players have not spent much actual game time playing with each other, consequently, they have not gelled as a team. This is the exciting part of basketball. Watching a team grow and find their roll within the framework.

I get excited about our current group of young players. I am convinced that gary Clark is the reincarnation of eric hicks. Maybe it is the off court issues, but ellis reminds me of Donald little. We have talent to compete, they just need to gel. This is not Fab five talent. Even that Michigan bunch took 3/4 of a season to gel. It is unfair to have such a harsh evaluation in game nine. Sure this is not Fab 5, but it is not exactly the Mick's 2008 bunch either.

My problem isn't that it's game nine. It's that it is YEAR nine.
