I want to give him the benefit of the doubt too; but it is hard. My guess is that Watts made the final official decision to kill the programs the week of 11/14 - 11/18. This is based on his comments about not wanting to distract the team with games left to play and finals coming up.

Mackin must have known that week and he stood on the sidelines watching us almost beat Marshall knowing his football team had a death warrant. When interviewed he looked sad and sounded defeated. Same with the Southern Miss game.

The decision was made months ago. The study was created to allow them to come to that conclusion.

I am sure the preordained conclusion was done last year, and that being "we are ending football". The middle of this November is when, I suspect, it was put into an actual official document and became policy.

IMHO the decision to kill football was made before Watts too the job. He had his marching orders.

It was made when the OCS was proposed.

I agree on the first part, but am pretty sure the second is a little different. There was never a need to issue orders; the Board knew it was getting a fellow-traveller and selected him with this task in mind.

That said, he has the backing of the Board in this and is the expression of their will. And we'll batter them with his incompetence, narcissism and arrogance.
