The Most Important Thing You Can Do Right Now.
Maybe Watts will continue on his current path of self destruction, but now he has some PR flunkies to try to keep him from making a fool of himself. Maybe the negative Watts articles and columns in the local and national media will continue and further tighten the noose, but the fire seems to be dieing down. Maybe the Faculty Senate will vote no confidence, but maybe not since Watts and his PR team are going to be leaning hard on the faculty. Maybe if the no confidence vote is successful, Watts will relent and reinstate the football team, but I would hold my breath. Maybe instead Watts will tuck his tail between his legs, collect the golden parachute, and bail, but so far he shows no sign of retreating. Maybe if he doesn't bail the BOT will offer him up as a scape goat, pay him well, and fire him, but maybe not. Maybe if Watts resigns or is fired, the BOT will put in his place someone who will reinstate football, but I wouldn't count on it, at least not right away.

That's a whole bunch of maybes all strung together. For those of you were good in statistics, try assigning a probability to each of those statements and then figure out the overall probability is that we get our team back anyti:zzz:me soon. I'll bet the probability of all the right things happening is pretty low.

Should we quit trying to make all of this stuff happen, HELL NO!!! If nothing else I want to see Watt's fat @$$ bounced out of the President's chair. He is a disgrace to UAB, the city and the state! We have to continue to do everything we can to make all of these things happen, but they are not the most important things we can do right now.

The most important thing we can do right now is to bring political forces to bear on the BOT. There is an old saying, "Strike while the Iron is hot. Well my Blazer brothers, the iron has never been, and will never be hotter. With Watts' despicable behavior and the BOT's finger prints all over the murder weapon, legislative momentum is truly building to do something bring the BOT to heal. We must take advantage of this opportunity! We must not let it slip away!

Please, if you do nothing else, if you live in Alabama, call your state Senator and your state Representative tomorrow. If your experience is anything like mine, you will be amazed at what a good reception you will get.

To find your Senator and Representative open this link:
http://www.legislature.state.al.us/
Then about half way down on the blue bar on the left, see the "Find Your Legislator" tab and enter your 9 digit ZIP code. Then click on the "Find MY Legislature" bar below. The names of your Senator and Representative should pop up. Click on their names and you should get their contact info.

Talk to both your Senator and your Representative. Tell them how you feel about this tragedy, how disgracefully it was handled, how it is negatively affecting the university, the metro area, and the state, and how nationally it has focused an extremely negative light on the whole state of Alabama. Ask them what they plan to do to correct the situation. If they haven't thought it trough, make suggestions.

Then reply to this message and state which state legislators you have contacted and how they reacted. An identical post is on the FreeUAB board. There are probably Watts' spys reading this board. You reply as to who you have contacted and their reactions on he FreeUAB confidentially. Posting the legislators names and reactions is important to allow us to check who has not be contacted.

Again, we will never have another chance as good as this one. Please.

I don't want to name them because our enemies monitor this board. I spoke to them both, and it was well-received and encouraged.

Great advice, Cajun. I shall heed it and contact my state representatives.

As Christmas approaches this story will die down. This doesn't mean the issue will be forgotten, however. Things move slower than we like especially in academia and government. I personally don't think any one is going to forget UAB football because in this state we will have constant reminders about football.

Point taken, I have duplicated this post on the FreeUAB board, you can post that kind of info there. I have also edited my post above to point out that you can post info about exactly who in the legislature you have talked to.

I emailed my districts representative and he told me that he supported UAB and was opposed to the football program and other sports ending. He said that he supported Jack Williams. He also said that Bc his district encompasses part of Jefferson County that he would be on an 18 member Jefferson County Delegation.

I think both of my reps would be on board also.

I would also contact the US House & Senate reps for the state.

Could not hurt.
