Never understood why anyone would spend extra money for more helmets during a year. Use a little elbow grease and put a shine on the standard helmets.

The helmet shell is rarely new. They put a different wrap on the shell and it only looks new. Very little cost.

Why should new helmets be a big to do a couple times a year in ho-hum regular season games and not the bowl when fans are investing a grand or more for a 3 day trip? Seems strange not to make it more of an event.

i imagine it has to do with recruiting. Being able to boast fresh gear, be it unis/gloves/cleats/helmets, probably helps with the sales pitch.

But seriously, I've wanted a red helmet for about a decade and now that we've been using one consistently... I don't know if I like it. Definitely not as much I was expecting to at least.

Our black helmet is iconic and very nice lookin.... I guess if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I get the sense that we now buy a special helmet each year. Usually it's been used just once in the bowl, but this season we broke it out early so the kids could wear them for a few a games. I would bet UCats will sell them for $1000 a pop right after the bowl game.

Not a big fan of this helmet either. The glossy black one with the bold C-Paw (and no cat scratch!) is iconic. Not quite in the same league with an old standard such as Michigan, but it is part of the Bearcat identity. So I say stick with it and get creative with alternate jerseys and the rest.

That is incorrect, every year the Bearcats have done a special bowl helmet, last 4 bowl games (Sugar, Liberty Bell, Belk & Belk) it has been a new helmet with special paint job. The first Belk bowl helmet was the most expensive to produce.

Now that they have multiple team sets (red, white and black), they could have sent one to be re-painted for the bowl (smaller cost than buying new shells + paint job), but opted not to.

And at $300 - $400 per shell, buying 100+ gets expensive PDQ.

I don't care for this cherry creamsicle helmet. Matte black with a matte C-paw on both sides would be good for me.

I stand corrected...The wraps make more sense then.

It was the only helmet I would have dropped coin on. I tried to twice but it did not work out. Those liquids were sick. Best we have ever rolled out.

The Liberty Bowl helmet was a close second.
