I'm concerned with the number of BOT members affiliated with Jr and his bank, just as I would be worried about multiple members all working for any member of the board, in favor of UAB or not.

I think the bylaws should also be updated that you cannot work for/with another board member. Anyone else see an issue with this or am I just being picky?

No you're not being picky and it's a real issue. That is probably step 97 in the process and we're on step 3 or so. It'll have to be addressed eventually but right now we need to garner support for the overall concept

Cronyism bad? Not for Alabama, says the BOT.

After thinking about this more, I can see why this would be an easier sale.
The legislature reps/senators are power brokers - or at least they want to be. So this change would add 12 members, of which some of the nominations could be in
influenced by the legislature. They have basically zero influence currently. There may even be some big-time uat boosters that feel slighted by being excluded from the current board, who may feel like they could get one of the new slots.

It is an interesting proposal.

Is there anything in there about who gets to choose and unchoose campus presidents? I'd prefer ours be hired and fired by our own. I assume Huntsville and Tuscaloosa would agree (in a world of a BOT with equal representation). Otherwise, UAB and UAH could team up and install John Rogers as the president in Tuscaloosa.

Bump - important discussion. Contact the state senator and legislator who represent you.

Look them up using your 9 character zip code here:
http://www.legislature.state.al.us/

This is the most important thing you can do right now!
