Should The Champion Play More Than 15 Games?
All of the teams in the Final Four of the College Championship have already played 13 games. The winner will end up playing 15 games.

For those that want more than 4 conferences that will result in more games. I have suggested 4 conferences of 20. This keeps the most games a team would play at 15.

Some have suggested 8 conferences of 10. That will lead to the winner having to play an additional game. I think 16 games is too many.

It's just one more game that will only affect two teams.

I also think 16 games is too many. But it's just for 2 schools so it's not a huge systemic problem.

In my mind there's plenty of other reasons to be against expanding the playoff so this is the least of my concerns.

6 team playoff.

#1 and #2 earn a first round bye

#3 hosts #6 & #4 host #5 at each of their home field 2 weeks after championship Saturday.

This makes the season matter more than it does now. Right now it doesn't matter if you are #1 or #4. In the playoff above there is a huge difference between being #4 and #5 or #2 and #3

Semi and Championship game played just as they are this year.

FCS plays more. Eight is the optimum number. That would be 16 games for 2 teams. That's the sweet spot.

The should cut the regular season a game or two shorter.

You want to cut between 64 and 128 games because 2 teams might play 1 more game? We play about 805 games a season right now. Adding 4 is not going to make a lick of difference.

RE: Should The Champion Play More Than 15 Games?
In theory, don't we already have an 8 team playoff with CCG? If B12 jumps on board, it goes 10 teams for the 4 spots. This is the reason why I think four works best and why the ACC rule change for conferences to determine their champion will be granted. The only reason you see people arguing for 8 is the deluded idea that a G5 would get a shot at the title. Odds are 1 in a Million for a G5 team now. The idea of 8 for the G5 is like Lloyd from dumb and dumber, so your saying I have a chance!

Basically, TCU and Baylor got hosed because no team was upset in the CCG and SOS bit them in their arse. If any of the teams had been, one of them would be in. I am not sold both would have gotten in with two of the teams losing. I do think Tech, Az, Wis or Miss would have landed in the 4th spot due to SOS. Take the what if scenario that B12 had Baylor play TCU for the CCG using the proposed ACC rule. Lets say TCU won.

It would have been
1. Bama
2. Oregon
3. FSU
4. OSU or TCU

I don't think anyone would argue the Top 3 were correct and either team could be the fourth. To me when you arguing of 4th place is not the same as who is #2. And if the new selection for CCG were allowed the games would have probably been the following.

FSU vs Ga Tech
Bama vs MSU
Oregon vs Az
Baylor vs TCU
OSU vs MSU

That looks like a playoff and where SOS could come into play for #4. The only thing is I still don't see why the P5 allow ND to keep being independent but it would almost force ND to 12 - 0 to get a top 4 spot. 11-1 won't if all the Champions are 12-1. Might finally be what forces ND to commit somewhere.

I think its a given if the playoff is expanded enough, the CCG will go away. Probably at 16 teams but it might be worth it to get rid of the CCG with a 8 team playoff. That way the total number of games stays the same.

Curious, why would the P5 give up the championship games. 3 of the 4 are at neutral sites now. Would that not need to be approved prior to going to 8 teams? In addition, I am not seeing the playoffs first round happening first week of Dec and then the final four NYE/NYD. Is that not what we already have CCGs?

Yes I do. 10 or 11 regular season games is plenty. Conferences can keep their championship games if they please, but the regular season should go back to the old format. NCAA, the networks, and the conferences would make so much money on a 16 team playoff bracket that the 64 or 128 meaningless games that are cut would be nothing. Make it worth it for the G5 by giving them an autobid. Marshall, for instance, would make a whole lot more money playing Alabama in the first round than they did playing Rhode Island and Akron combined.

It's all in the scheduling. On another thread I drew up a plan for a 32 team playoff, with everybody playing at least 12 games, nobody playing more than 14, keeping or expanding all the CCG's, and not extending the season further into December or the playoffs further into January. It takes a big paradigm shift and flexibility in conference scheduling, but it can be done.

P5 CCGs are actually worth more with an 8 team playoff than they are now, because the winner would have a guaranteed ticket to the playoff. Suppose that Ohio State had lost another game this year prior to the Big Ten title game. That game between 2-loss OSU and 2-loss Wisconsin would have drawn little interest. But in an 8-team playoff, the CCG always matters, is guaranteed better TV ratings and ticket sales, and thus is a more valuable property.
