You say you're not sure, but I think you are. I know I am.
Cincy has other options. A precipitating event occurs.
What dude? Are you implying the ACC comes along and invites UC to cut off the Big 12?
That's ridiculous. I absolutely love my alma mater, but I don't think UC goes from a school who is fighting to get into a power conference to all of a sudden have Notre Dame level choices. I know you are just mega trolling out scenarios as a poor man's miko, but I still don't get you.
UC would happily accept a Big 12 invite if it were to come. We would then soon after publicly announce the $70M renovation to our basketball arena (which is happening anyway) and begin the next chapter of our athletic future. UC is thriving right now as a university, and this would only add to the stability of our athletic program.
I'm sure UC would love to be in the ACC, and I think the ACC has a lot of positive feelings towards UC, but you also need an incentive to expand unless you are getting a true giant.
I was told by someone (in a position to know these things) last summer that the ACC is very much in play for Cincy. As for timing, that elicited a shrug. This has nothing to do with a Notre Dame type choice/situation. Far from it. Academics, geography, athletic potential. Limited choices. And no, I don't root for or otherwise have an interest in Cincy.

If that's the case then the ACC might move if the Big 12 starts to make a move on Cincinnati.

As a resident of CT I can swear to any Texas official that I will make sure The Longhorn Network is on Tier 1 of all Ct cable stations.. that includes the Fairfield county into NYC. 3 dollars a pop at 2-3 million people will equal a few dollars for them. I really hope if Uconn is trying to get in they are talking to the right people... namely the bank account of Texas.....

Ignorance of the current (and recent past) state of UCONN football is no excuse!

People already know UConn's strengths (which are significant and speak for themselves). But they also know UConn's weaknesses. UConn's biggest weakness is a leadership that makes grand gestures that placate the fanbase but burn bridges with future partners at other schools. That's what they've done in the past 2 rounds of reallignment and reminding the Big 12 of this tendency is a sure way to guarantee that you keep your seat at the little kids table.
Ignorance of the current UCONN brass is no excuse!

RE: Hartford Courant lead Big 12: UConn should strike while iron is hot
From UConn's point of view, geography doesn't really matter. They go to Dallas, Houston, Tulsa, New Orleans and Memphis in the American and get paid peanuts. Flying your football, basketball and olympic sports to DFW, Austin, Oklahoma City, Kansas City and Des Moines is not that much different anyway, especially with the substantial increase in TV money they'll get from the Big XII. Pittsburgh is a short fly away from Hartford. If Cincinnati is brought on board, that's another short flight away as well. So geography is not an issue for UConn but the question is, would the decision makers in the Big XII (UT and OU) would be fine with it?

Just from a recruiting standpoint, is someone from a current Big XII school more likely to poach a recruit from Connecticut or from Ohio (Cincy), Tennessee (Memphis) or even Louisiana (Tulane). While UConn checks off a lot of boxes, the negatives are pretty glaring from the conference's point of view, I would think. Having to load up for a trip to Hartford for a weekend baseball or softball series, a track meet or swim meet or a golf tournament just doesn't sound like something a coach in Lubbock, Waco or even Norman is going to want to do.
