I agree. Ranger seems to think though that if the basketball team refused to play, Watt would throw his hands in the air and cry "What have I done? The basketball team won't play. I must be crazy."

It isn't happening and does more damage than has been done. As soon as a program refuses to play in protest, that sport is done too.

A very stupid idea.

Ill write slower so...never mind.

If A team boycotts, then you are right. They are gone. If ALL teams boycott we have a differemt scenario and everyone has put all chips on the table in a show of solidarity that cannot be ignored or avoided. I realize football probably gasped its last breathe with no bowl invite. But in this era of social media, there is unpredictable power in students risking and sacrificing and inviting the world to hear their plea for truth and justice. There is a chance...although admittedly slim.

I love how the status quo faction believes we can free UAB by continuing to do basically the same thing that cost us our football program. If Watts is not gone by this week then the fight will be lost for a generation. If the remaining athletic teams believe that capitulation is the best course of action then hey can go and create a new fan base because a huge number of past supporters are never going to support the program again. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.

As stated previously, by others and in other threads....UAB football is dead. For the moment. Current players and coaches are moving on to continue elsewhere.

The task ahead for us is to 1) eliminate Watts and 2) achieve autonomy whether by a fair BoT representation or a Free UAB.

After we have achieved those goals, new leadership can re-boot football with the support the program never had before including FACILITIES. When UAB football next takes the field, it can NOT be @ Legion Field.

Grambling's Football team stood up to the negligence and bureaucracy they were subjected to last season and agreed to sit out a game until their voices were heard. I don't recall any of them being kicked off the team. It didn't take them long to get satsifaction, either, what was it, one , two weeks? Less? More? Just citing an example. They took the risk and reaped a reward.

Haase can't even get the guys to run a decent last play in a close game. Why would we think he had the ability to teach anyone boldness?

All we have left is our "Remember the Alamo" moment.

Remember UAB Football!

I see the OP's point but there's real momentum and a chance to oust Watts with the no confidence vote. For now, all the effort should be focused there.

Faculty vote can accelerate watts departure, but wont reverse the decision. A boycott could accomplish both, particularly with the scrutiny being finally directed to the criminally negligent carr report.

Also, most of the football team might be leaving, but until he is hired elsewhere there is a sliver of hope for keeping clark...if he sees high risk solidarity from the other athletes and teams..standing together for his team. That is probably the only way he could stay and rebuild.

That said, a boycott is a desperate idea, but have there ever been more desperate times for this university if you really see the full landscape of what has happened? And as has been pointed out it had recent positive impact at grambling. This is a great David and goliath story, particularly for a college football nation outside the southeast that is sick of tide football dominance and corruption. There is a ready made audience to understand and accept the villains im this story, particularly those above ray.

IF UAB fans could boycott something the System BOT cared about and thereby cause them stress, it would have a chance of working. THEY remain our problem, not their "hit man" Watts. Keep in mind they have an infinite capacity to replace Watts with THEIR next choice if we manage to force him out.

Clark is probably still here because it will take time for the schools who need new coaches to get down to our level. Right now they are still reshuffling the big reputation coaches among the big schools. As schools run out of these choices, they will then be willing to risk on an unknown (or only locally known) candidate. EX: Not only is Muschamp available , but so are all his top assistant coaches.
