"I am by no means saying this is or will be a done deal with Memphis & Cincinnati..."
"Based on this, it does seem he has heard confirmation that the Big 12 will be looking to expand, potentially with just two schools, but they have not yet settled on who those schools will be."
I have no doubt that the Big 12 is "looking" but they have never denied that. They have also said that they do not have an obvious choice.
Colorado St just announced a $200 million stadium and had an amazing couple years. I wouldnt doubt they are being looked at also.
The Big 12 has time. They are in no rush. They more then likely will get a team in the playoff, which will postpone this whole process. I really dont think any movement will be made until after 2016...
What people forget is there are MANY reasons to possibly expand and one is the P5 governance structure. Each member gets a vote...not conference, member! So right now the ACC leads all conferences with 15 votes.
In 2016, the Big 10 will get a new TV deal... its going to be huge. Were talking obscene money. Between their new 1st tier contract and the Big 10 network, I would not doubt at all that they are distributing into the $30 million range, which gives them about $10 million a year more income (and rising since the B10 network keeps going up) the the ACC and Big 12.
Delaney will take a look at how to maximize that contract and if it means taking two more schools, he will do it... and he will have the ammo to make the move. If he does, watch the dominoes fall. I tend to believe that no less then 6 teams will switch conferences if it happens.
