We need legislation bills passed ASAP
I know John Rogers and Jack Williams both have bills for the UofA system to have equal representation on the BOT. Rogers even has a bill for UAB to have its own BOT. I know similar bills have been presented before but did not go through. Hopefully we can gain a lot of support after the obvious neglect to our University.

We need things to move quickly.Does anyone know when these new bills will be presented?

Don't stop supporting UAB, the basketball team needs support. Our focus needs to shift to the BOT and equality for UAB. We can not stop fighting

Sheila Tyson stated at the Town Hall Meeting @ the RLC Tuesday that there's a bill up for debate and possible referendum in mid-February, and encouraged everyone there to lobby for passage of this and to register for state votership if you haven't already.

The legislature doesn't meet for another month, so there is no current legislation. Once they gavel in the bills will officially be filed and the leadership will set the schedule. Hopefully Williams has been working behind the scenes to try to get some floor time for the bill. Most bills die having never made it to the floor. The legislature by law can only meet for 30 working days, usually over the course of a few months. The usually gavel out in April, barring a special session.

Yep, Governor Bentley could call a special session over this. He's a Bryant Jr puppet so he would never do it anyways.

The U.S. Congress is still in session. If you wait until January, NO ONE WILL CARE. Go to the thread about the U.S. Congressmen and make your voice heard TODAY. January is too late!

How many state legislators represent some portion of the City of Birmingham? How many represent some portion of Jefferson County?

Has Spence Bachus weighed in on this? Gary Palmer?

Several, actually. The challenge, IMO, actually is if this actually gets to a state-wide voting referendum, will there be enough voter support in favor of it outside of Jefferson County? Remember the Lottery and MAPS?

Let's be a little bit realistic here. Firstly, the U.S. Congress is in session for another week. In that time they are dealing with funding the entire federal government, which is set to expire next week. Tied in with that is the ongoing fight over immigration. UAB football is not going to be remotely close to being anywhere near the vicinity of anybody's agenda. Secondly, even going forward there will be no traction on this issue in Washington. I'm sorry, but even if one member of congress has said he is interested the other 534 are not. The answer lies in Montgomery.

There are 13 state representatives whose districts are at least partially in Jefferson in Shelby County.

That number is 7 for state senators.
