I think this is correct though it may be much sooner than a year. I don't know how the man will be able to go about daily life around town. How far did the rankings of the medical school fall under Watts' leadership? I am including this in my letter plus this latest debacle to show he is not the leader this University needs.

I just believe all energy must be directed at getting out from under the BOT as quickly as possible. Once that is done, we can turn our attention to re-establishing our athletic programs. This is a 20 year setback folks. Make no mistake about it. 20 years.

We can do both at the same time. By the way, little bear will soon be off the board. Also, he couldn't get Reynolds or Garrison to do his bidding because they both knew that it was immoral and unethical. It may not be so easy to get a president who is willing to be the most hated man (or woman) in the history of UAB.

Bryant may be off the board but he'll still be pulling strings.

I'd suggest not doing that, so as not to offend the SOM senators. I have reason for hope on some of them.

I hate politics. A failure is a failure. But, nonetheless I won't mention it.

It won't be 20 years if we get out from under the board. We can hit the reset button and by rolling within five. Hell everything is in place and we can quickly raise funds for our IPF and build it before we take the first snap. Our logo our first year back on the helmet needs to be a hand giving the finger.

Some important things to note when contacting faculty senators:

Don't trash the SOM or reference the SOM "falling"

Couch it more in the overall failure of leadership at UAB, not just football. There's more to this than football (School of Bus. building being delayed, "strategic planning" is going on all over campus, etc)

One of my former professors gave me his word that this would be discussed at the upcoming meeting.

I have personally spoken to five faculty members. None are willing to support a vote of no-confidence. One told me point blank he knows the goal is to kill off the undergraduate side, and he's just holding out hope he can retire before that happens.

The apathy is depressing.

Agreed. I would also add please don't argue the "Watts is a BOT puppet" point. A lot people just believe this is something fans and the media made up.

Focus on his actions alone that you are unhappy with, and why you believe he is not fit to lead the university. Ask the senate to hold him accountable. Play the integrity card for what he did to Bill Clark, his assistants, and players. Expose the "this was about money" lie when he wouldn't accept outside funds. Expose the "this was a data driven process" lie when they obviously didn't gather all of the facts. Focus on why you believe his vision for the university does not include a thriving undergraduate program and more cuts are coming. Encourage them and let them know that there are people who care and stand behind them.

I have higher hopes from my own conversations.

"Rumors are buzzing about significant changes in Athletics. Please do not pay heed to rumors. The
Athletic Department, as every other department, is going through their strategic plan process to reach for
excellence. As in every other department, we are utilizing data-driven strategic processes to discuss which
areas we want to invest in. We would like to focus on 1 or 2 programs to grow to be nationally
competitive and to have a balanced budget. We appreciate what Athletics brings to the table; we are proud
of our athletics and do not consider them a lower priority. No decisions have been made yet as the
department has just begun their process."

Send that snippet back to the Faculty Senate!

The onlyprofessor i recognize is Ogard from the PT dept. I'll be trying to contact him as soon as i can. He was an athlete in college, but i don't know how receptive he will be.
