Conference Realignment
If the Big 12 misses out on the 4 team playoff due to not having a clearly defined conference champ due to not having a championship game. How soon if at all does anyone see the conference expanding to allow for the championship game and if they do see them expanding. What teams does anyone think will be looked at strongly.

RE: Conference Realignment
The Big 12 has been burned in the past by a CCG knocking out a contender, so they've seen the other side of that coin. It may cause some discussion if this were to occur, but I don't think that a single year's exclusion from the playoff would be enough to cause an immediate rush to expand.

Conference Realignment
That makes sense, I would assume that everyone is waiting to see how this all plays out.

I do expect several game buyouts for FCS OOC games should that be held against schools. I also expect several higher echelon G5 schools to fill those slots.

RE: Conference Realignment
I think some of the commentary by JRSec and others regarding the Big 12 being in a holding pattern while UT, OU, and to a lesser extent KU consider their options is rather convincing, so I am not anticipating much in the way of expansion by the Big 12. If the Big 12 were to expand, certainly schools like UCF (large school in a good recruiting ground state, even if it's not as high profile as UF or FSU) would likely be high on the list for consideration. Some of the other usual suspects mentioned on the realignment board like Cincinnati, BYU, Memphis would also be possibilities.

We do have a different dynamic in that the Tier 3 rights are not pooled into a conference network at this time, so while markets and geography would definitely be considerations, the attractiveness of a brand name for Tier 1 & 2 consideration may be even more important to the Big 12 than it would be for other conferences.

I am not 100% sure how to take this post?

It sounds like your being cheeky by saying decades then immediately following it up with harry potter land.

Oh No, I was just going to ask, how cool is Harry Potter land? Is that the UCF locker room the players are celebrating in?

RE: Conference Realignment
I Hope it's Memphis and UCF to the Big 12. Though I see no way for that to happen. One or the other. And if it were you guys. USF I would assume we be part of that equation (Unless 14 was a possibility). Just don't see it happening. Especially since we know Cincy is in talks with them. Probably going to be Colorado State. The State of Colorado makes a lot of since with all it's new growth (though most of it's stoners). How much is that Market worth to them? New Markets sound really good to me like TN, FL and OH.

I really really really want to go to Harry Potter land so I kind of need you guys to come with us or we all stay put. And I really want to see you guys facilities in person versus pictures

RE: Conference Realignment
Memphis and Cincy seem to me to be the two most logical choices IF the Big 12 decides to go back to 12. Both help fill in the geographical gap between West Virginia and the rest of the league (good for scheduling those sports where the norm is 2 game weekend trips -- esp. basketball); both are in decent media markets; both bring at least some athletic tradition and a record of moderate success. They have a bit of a basketball rivalry between them dating waaay back, and West Virginia's basketball coach, the inimitable Huggy Bear, moved his somewhat pickled self back home to W.Va. when Cincy canned him a few years back. Cincy and West Virginia have a bit of a football rivalry as well. Also, though I know this will piss off you Big 12 loyalists, neither Memphis nor Cincy is exactly a first rate academic institution, meaning they should be right at home in the Big 12. The B12 took West Virginia after both the SEC and ACC passed with a big emphasis on academic quality, and W.Va. was thrilled to find a top league with standards low enough to take them. Cincy and Memphis are both a big step up from there.

Finally, UCF is just too far out of the geographic footprint to warrant a B12 bid, although Colorado State or even BYU might work.

Really? Too far...yeah okay, flying into CINCY is no different than flying into Orlando. 2-3 hours.

Chicago is the biggest market near the Big 12 footprint, NIU gets you into that media market....

RE: Conference Realignment
I don't think that the Big 12 can expand nor contract. Here are my reasons. First, the LHN does exactly what ESPN wants it to do. It is a cheap method to keep the Big 12 together as a fifth wheel conference. But, more importantly, it keeps control of UT's third tier broadcast rights. By having control of UT's third tier broadcast rights, ESPN has essentially forced UT to only move to conferences that are locked into ESPN. Those two conferences are ACC and SEC. UT cannot go to the B1G nor PAC because those conferences have their third tier rights given to FOX. I do not think that OU or kU have the ability to move by themselves to a new conference. UT is the only "homerun" entity in the Big 12. OU and kU are excellent second choices. This is similar to TAMU and Mizzou. TAMU was the big prize while Mizzou was the pleasant add-on.

While the Big 12 will not fold, I do not see it expanding. If only 6 votes were needed, then expansion would have already occurred. The two new divisions would be the Texohoma and Leftover divisions. Any other attempt to "zipper" divisions will not have enough votes. Those who do not get yearly contests with UT will object saying it will hurt their Texas recruiting. Also, WVU has already said that they do not want a Florida school invited. That would elevate the Florida school to a rival for recruits. This would be detrimental to WVU's recruiting in Florida. If 7 votes are needed then you would probably end up with the Texohoma + kU division and everyone else. You would probably also have at least one Florida school. In time their will be many unhappy campers.

I hadn't really thought of this. Kind of an interesting point of view. Scary, if true for us TCU fans.

Sorry for being late to the party but, I really don't come here that often. Please show me where it was published or printed that WVU doesn't want a Florida school invited to the Big 12. I haven't seen or heard of this before. Thanks, I'll await your link. 07-coffee3

If the B12 expansion is about connecting WVA, then Cincinnati, Memphis and East Carolina make the best sense.

RE: Conference Realignment
Agree Bit. B12 is very unlikely to expand for a while. And I don't see Memphis as a pick if they did. Cincy.. likely, Memphis was about the 5 or 6 team BE was interested in, They will not be at the top for B12. UCONN with Cincy and WV in hand wouldn't be a smaller Isl than WV is right now. And the potential market is huge. UCF or USF offer markets and Fla recruiting advantages. I do think B12 would lean east rather than west as the commish has already said.

Everyone underestimates NIU. NIU and Cincy fill needs for WVa and Ia St. Plus they bring big media markets. Watch the Huskies grow.
