City needs Univ of Al at Bhm(med) and U of Bhm(compre U)
Firmly convinced separating medicine and the comprehensive university is needed more than ever. Interests of the two are just too conflicting, medical being almost exclusively post-graduate and research. Besides Memphis, another City where a similar separation exist is Syracuse NY. Syracuse University (historically private) and Upstate Medical University (SUNY) exist side by side near downtown as separate institutions.

Didn't we just do this yesterday? We don't need one of these threads every day. And how can you argue for a "comprehensive" university while arguing to split off the biggest part of it?
