Good luck with it. Gotta admit, I admire your optimism.

I have to say, I think you're a bit overconfident. I won't call anyone a Dec 14th lock but Duke, UofL, & UVA might as well be locks. UNC has struggled but is probably 95% getting a bid.

Miami (RPI 40) looks like a good bet at this point. Everyone else has work to do. NC State is 8-1 with a 33 RPI somehow but they've beaten no one. I need to see more. Notre Dame is ranked but has a 146 RPI due to a horrific schedule. Those were your 7 locks but some are far from locks.

Cuse and Pitt were the preseason #5/6 picks but both appear iffy so far. To be decided. I've seen nothing from BC or GT to say they're likely to get a bid and we have four sub-150 teams in Wake, FSU, Clemson, and VT.

I think I'd sign up for 7 bids overall right now if given the chance. 12 is a pipe dream.

GT will finish the season with a losing record. Bank on it. And bank on Gregory being terminated at the conclusion.

Ill go on record right now and say that the Acc will never get 12 teams n to the tourney. The BE was deeper with more basketball oriented programs and the most they ever got in was 11. And that was only once. The only way the Acc gets 12 in is if they have like 20 teams or if something abnormal happens like 100 NCAA teams being ineligible or something crazy like that.

Could you even conceive of the ACC getting 10 teams in the NCAA tournament this year?

Not this year. But I could see it in the future. This year, Syracuse and Pitt are not reliable teams to get into the tourney. In a normal year when both are pretty good, I could see Pitt, Syracuse Louisville, UNC Duke, NC State, ND, and 3 from this group; Virginia, Miami, FSU, VT (as long as these schools hang onto their current coaches)

As a further example, one of the "locks" you had, NC State, lost to Wofford yesterday. That alone dropped their RPI from 33 to 62. That goes to show how quickly that moves this early in the year.

03-lmfao

Holy balls this league is just a shadow of what it was in hoops around the early '00s.

Bad losses:

Wake Forest 81 - Iona 85
Wake Forest 65 - Delaware State 72
Virginia Tech 66 - Radford 68
Virginia Tech 54 - Northern Iowa 73
Virginia Tech 63 - Appalachian State 65
Syracuse 57 - St. Johns 69
Pittsburgh 70 - Hawaii 74
NC State 54 - Wofford 55
Miami 55 - Green Bay 68
Georgia Tech 54 - USC Upstate 59
Florida State 73 - Northeastern 76
Florida State 69 - UMASS 75
Clemson 74 - Winthrop 77
Clemson 70 - Gardner Webb 72
Boston College 62 - UMASS 71
Boston College 53 - Dayton 65

Spartanburg, SC is 2-0 against the ACC (Wofford/USC Upstate). Good thing Furman is terrible and played Duke or it could be 3-0 for the Upstate.

ACC gets at least 10 in the NCAA and perhaps more. The SEC is hot F'n garbage.

So, some 2nd half scores tonight:

South Carolina 56 - Clemson 37

Eastern Kentucky 55 - Miami 32

Losing at home to 3-4 EKU is bad enough. Getting mauled at home by EKU....

RE: Open Thread - 2014-15 Men's Basketball Season
Yep, this season for the ACC will be similar to the 2005-06 season for the Big East:

Very strong at the top (Duke, Louisville, Virginia vs UConn and Nova) supported by three or four teams with 10-11 conference wins from amongst UNC, NC State, ND, and perhaps one of Pitt or SU.

For the Big East that year, those four teams were WVU, Pitt, Georgetown, and Marquette. Seton Hall made it with a 9-9 conference record while Syracuse got in by winning the BE tourney that year. Total of 8 bids.

Cheers,
Neil

Georgia Tech beats Vanderbilt.

Bloody hell the SEC is a level of awful that is scarcely imaginable.

The Harrell incident started with the WKU player. Not smart to retaliate, but he literally had 3 WKU guys instigating him.

Miami looks p good. Definitely a basketball school now.

Good news is that less than 4500 people actually saw that beatdown, so they can pretend it didn't happen.

How about them Cavaliers! Beating pre-season-ranked Harvard team 74-25 and that's with the second team playing almost ten minutes in the second half. Now pundits are talking about their desire to see them matchup with Kentucky in post-season.
