Mark, they didn't miss some classes. Those two stopped going. And that staff knew because profs were raising hell about it. MT was just as culpable since they should have been been booted in February. That dbag AK figured it would be someone else's problem by the time it had to be reported and the APR nightmare blew up. Dumb ass actually had the nerve to be angry that the calendar caught up with him in the NIT.

To be honest, I think Hicks deserves more credit for that team performing than anybody. Probably threatened to kill any player that didn't bust their @ss.

Hicks is still an all time favorite. Not sure how many came across him on campus but he seemed like a really good dude as well. Took a picture with a friend of mine at a party (and had the presence of mind to make my friend put his beer behind his back). Seemed friendly every time I came across him.

Agree. Hicks was one of those hard work ethic, lunch pail, warriors and looked like a professional wrestler playing basketball. He just about averaged a double-double during his Senior season I believe.

Mark me down on the "Screw Kennedy" team. Not the kind of guy I'd ever want to play for or have representing my school.

I appreciate how hard that team played under AK that year..under manned, not very deep, lot of heart. Of course the players that stopped going to class basically said FU to the team and fans so EF them.

But that was a bad time and I hate thinking about it.

Plus AK is a ginormous dbag

all in the rearview thank goodness

We've crossed the tracks into Not Niceville, FL. Games at 9 by the way.

DeBerry shattered a backboard at practice today.

UC had no scholarship players coming back besides McGowan and possibly Downey. AK was an obvious lame duck coach with absolutely no means to recruit. The program was sabotaged by the decision to put Huggs on a weak contract that put players in an awkward position if they wanted to sign with UC, then later by firing Huggs before the season and putting a lame duck with no hope of being hired in charge of the program.

What AK did was coach up the team and had them playing with fire all year. That was to me all he could do for the program. He had no meas to do anything else.

It's really funny listening to people drone on about personal responsibility in one thread and then instead of blaming White and Muhammad, blame AK in this one. I was on campus at the time and knew a few people close to some of the players and everything I heard about the situation was yea the players missed some class, but that wasn't what got them ineligible. White and Muhammad decided not to show for finals after it was announced UC didn't make the tournament. If people remember the players didn't initially want to even play in the NIT but were convinced to do it (partly by AK, which was I think for the good of the University as a whole). Maybe the story I got is wrong, but I trust the people it came from. Given his status I'm not sure AK should have known they wouldn't show up to finals...either way those two should have taken responsibility for themselves.

What I remember is despite their absence AK putting the players there in position to win the first two NIT games and then a game against South Carolina that despite the loss was one of my favorite as a Bearcat fan. UC was so overmatched. Barwin played 24 minutes, Ronald Allen was on the floor for 12. And they fought. Brandon Miller had to give UC 6 minutes. Chad Moore went the entire 40 (as did Hicks and Downey) having his back worked on every timeout, noticably limping in the second half. The players were great and AK managed a limited roster about as well as you could. Proud of that team and think AK gets a bad rap.

I'm with you guys. Any way you slice it, UC's administration screwed AK, the program and the fans way more than AK screwed anybody...

...including his wife Rimshot

Wow came looking for tv info and found the AK is worse than hitler debate has been rekindled. Big surprise. Anyway, Go Cats. Can't wait to watch choppy online feed with the Ball State boom goes the dynamite kid announcing. He was so bad it was actually numerous at times. I was waiting for him to say "and number five passes it to the man."

Because it just never gets old.

My question is that I assume this is some broadcasting major right? Do they just want to be a broadcaster but have no interest in sports at all?

Tosh.0 had a web redemption with him. Broadcasting was not his calling...thankfully for everyone's sake.
