The USA Today article about Coach Clark has always stuck out in my mind. Where he talked about after the Troy win, the players thanked him for being there. He is hurting, we the fans are hurting, and the players who have worked hard and put in lots of effort are hurting. As a Coach it has to especially hurt to see your kids work hard do the right things and get punished for it.

+1 Great post, broadens the perspective even more about how deeply closing our football team down will hurt so many beyond the players and coaches themselves, and it's not to say there's no empathy for them from us, that's far from true...We know where the lack of malice comes from....Thanks to everyone pitching in to the fight, as well as several in the media, esp. I didn't hear hurt in his voice. I heard anger. He came in and told Mackin and Watts they weren't serious about football. They said "uh, yes we are". I don't think he realized when he came in that his idea of "serious about football" was the SAme "serious about football" that the BOT allows UAB to have. He got that education over the summer when he started talking to people.

He then started to try and push things thru on his own, like the IPF and has been rebuffed by Mackin and Watts. Now whether he is being rebuffed because Mackin knows from years of experience with the BOT that he is tilting at windmills or they are truly trying to thwart him, I don't know.

But I think he is angry, not hurt. He is angry at the BOT and the political landscape, and probably a little at himself because he didn't know the true story of UAB and The BOT when he took the job.

You can be both hurt and angry. Perhaps I should have used frustrated. But as a Coach it has got to be frustrating to watch your players be punished for doing the right things.

I would use the word "sickening" and I think I would be dead on how coach Clark feels about all this.

It isn't his job to make us relevant, or even help us exist. He at least tried to help out a fellow coach, and I can respect that. I have never had a huge issue with saban, and he didn't have to do what he did.

I don't see CBS helping since it has the SEC GOTW. Fox or nothing I'm afraid. Maybe Erin Andrews will take a shot at it to spite ESPN.

Would someone who is in the know please elaborate on Clark's statement that there was a person who wanted to make a donation toward an IPF but their offer was nixed?

Clark has a gained a lot of support in the communities, etc since he has been coaching.

He has a supporter who wanted to donate towards the IPF & our administration/BOT did not want to accept the donation.

Remember that building anything like an OCS/ IPF would be establishing a foundation for the program that some do not want.

Clark was referring to turf at first. If you'll remember it was reported last spring that we got a pledge of a couple hundred thousand to put turf down on one practice field. That got nixed.
