No nutts, no glory.
So what do you propose?

How about something that focuses on the ISSUE AT HAND: UAB football. By the time a restructuring of the BOT is done, if it ever happened, UAB would be more empowered to add 4:30pm classes to our 100% night class schedule...

But what actions would you propose?
A save football rally? Handing out fliers? Making MORE apparently useless phone calls as some on this board have called them.
What do you propose?

The problem is that we might not be able to stop the powers that be from strangling the child to death. Our next-best-response is basically to isolate and damage everyone who had a hand in it's death by whatever legal means we have.

It's looking pretty depressing right now. Alabama doesn't strike me as a state I'd like to return to because of crap like this. I can send emails and make calls... but not much else.

How about a public statement of what has been pledged via B Club and Football Foundation that the BOT and UAB administration are turning down to let Clark walk and kill football? Hard to argue based on money when they're turning down what's being waved in their faces.

Agreed this would be great but considering I can't make that call, I'll keep plugging away on contacting officials. Tell the B Club and Football Foundation Blazr.

Jack Williams plans on introducing a very unique plan for Board restructuring. Obviously, the details will come out tomorrow. Regardless, get the word out and attend if you can make it.

I think this is a great move and PERFECT timing by Jack Williams. If the worst happens this week, then this restructuring plan is likely to gain a lot of support and coverage. We've already got the media on our side, and everything could blow up in the BOT's faces if they once again stick their noses where they don't belong. Great strategic move, IMO.

It'd have to be really f*cking unique to accomplish anything. I'm with blazr, does this really help?

Well, on the one hand, I agree with Blazr. The football mess is going to be resolved in a week to ten days at the outside, and probably sooner. Nothing done regarding the BoT is going to affect that.

On the other, this is a warning shot over the bow for the BoT. If they persist, we *will* be going after them, legally, politically, and in the court of public opinion. I really doubt that the idea of reorganizing their little influence peddling pipeline is very palatable. It's possible that this will be one more pressure on them and that it does do some good in the short term.

I guess with this kind of thing I just worry that with it being short notice and during the work day there won't be a good turnout then all of our detractors will use that news footage as more of the "no one cares about UAB" rhetoric.

I have the same concern. I can only hope Williams is doing what can to ensure a good turnout. Regardless, even if it's a packed conference, detractors would just rely on the usual tripe they've been advancing.

Legit question: how is Watts and Mackin allowing this press conference to take place in front of Bartow Arena if they are the BOT pawns?

State/public property and the first amendment.

Not necessarily. Still would need permits, I would imagine.

As has already been pointed out, the program will be dead and buried by the time Williams or anyone else can even begin to do anything politically.

Simple. Williams declares, "I'm holding a press conference in front of Bartow Arena. I dare you to try to stop me."

Someone else asked this a while back, but how are we still so politically weak? UAB has been an autonomous university since 1969, has produced doctors, politicians, NFL Draft picks and Olympic champions, and we have the political clout of one of the Faulkner satellite campuses in a shopping center in Hoover. It's ridiculous.
