Dear Governor Bentley and Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am writing to you in support of the football program at UAB.

I graduated from UAB in August of 1988. We didn't have a football program at that time, but the club football team began the following year. I began attending the games in 1989 and as a season ticket holder have attended the large majority of UAB's home football games ever since. I have also attended many away games, including the very first official game at Millsaps College on September 7, 1991, as well as numerous other games at fifteen different locations in eight states. I have thoroughly enjoyed many fond memories as a UAB alumnus and football fan. Although I wasn't able to enjoy these memories as a student myself, I am thrilled for the students over the past 26 years who have been able to enjoy Blazer football games as a part of their overall college experience.

As you know, there have been many news reports over the past couple of weeks speculating that the UAB football program might be shuttered soon. Frankly, this is hard to believe. Surely these reports consist of nothing more than speculation based on incomplete information. I am hopeful that you will not only put these rumors to rest by making an official public statement that the program will not be shut down, but that you will also express your full support for the program and its student-athletes and coaches. It would be much appreciated by the Blazer Nation if you would make that statement as soon as possible. Tomorrow morning would be great. As the team heads into the final week of the regular season with a possible bowl berth on the line, it would be a great confidence booster for these young men for them to know that they have the full support of the leaders of our university system. They are counting on you. Don't let them down.

Done. I emailed BOT members on Saturday and entire list on Sunday. I will continue to do so daily.

I got a response from Michael Bownes:

I'd like to ask him who does.

I'm surprised no one has asked, or maybe I'm the only one who missed it. Anyone care to elaborate on the aforementioned rumors regarding a decision by this Wednesday? Where did that date come from? I thought the expedited study "results" were going be released sometime after the season and that didn't necessarily mean that a decision on the future of the program would be made by that time.

The person to whom you are inquiring is an inside person, very much inside.

Sometimes you need to take people's word for it.

I would take heed to anything Taylor Blazer says. This does not mean much to some but I personally vouch for him. ;-)

If Taylor says duck you better duck or your head may be severed.

When UAB football is dead, I'm sure it will give you comfort that you weren't "duped" by paranoid and nefarious members of BT.

There's a time when you just have to trust that others have more information than you do and that if they shared that information publicly it would damage the cause.

This is one of those times.

There's a time when you just have to trust that others have more information than you do and that if they shared that information publicly it would damage the cause.

This is one of those times.

If I don't know someone personally and haven't heard others vouch for him, then I'm probably not going to fully trust internet rumors that are stated as fact. It sounds like many of you guys agree that TB knows what he's talking about. I'm sure there are other's out there that feel the same I as do, and it helps when you guys back the rumors. HB, I do personally know and trust you and will take your word for it :). I'm still not sure there's much fans can affect at this point if we are this close to a decision, but it doesn't hurt to fight with every last breath.

I just sent out a round of emails to everyone on that list. Hope it helps. Go Blazers!
