Just because I speak my opinion about many posts on this board you say I should be kicked off. You must be a Democrat or a Communist. You want free speech curtailed too.

ChazB2 -- you're such a sweet talker lol... honest question: Which team do you root for and are a fan of?

I am a grad of suitcase u. also known as Northern Illinois. Unfortunately in the world of sports it is minor league. It is fun reading posts from people on the board who try to make something out of nothing. If honest, most people on this board would have preferred to go to a school with major sports programs that are well known and recognized by others and where 80,000 or so fans attend. It is just much more fun. Most sports fans have never heard of Northern Illinois.

Not many Good places have a football program where 80k attend. No football team in the state of Illinois has that. At the Northwestern game there seemed to be just as many NIU fans as NW fans, and at Illinois they (well, especially now) don't get 50k.

But yes, I think hitting 25-30k as a "staple" makes the excitement key. NIU lacks that. But if/when they don't, which they're aiming (knock on wood) to eliminate, then the whole "it'd be more fun if a packed stadium in DeKalb had more fans" goes out the window.

Quote:Most sports fans have never heard of Northern Illinois.

Just about every real college football fan HAS heard of NIU and more than just heard of them. If you're talking about young college girls going to games for fun & social excitement to rah-rah their team who live on the west, east, or southern coasts -- okay, no -- most don't. But I wouldn't consider them real college football fans. They also would assume Memphis was a city college or TCU was some small D2 christian school.

You're Far exaggerating the situation as if they're a D1AA team like Indiana State that'll have a few good D1AA years. I think the point you could make is that NIU has too few fans showing up to games to make a Real Name for themselves on the big stage (thus going P5), and instead can only hope to be a big fish in a small pond (G5) for most years.

But for me as a MAC fan (WMU)? I'd rather be a big fish in a small pond (G5) winning 10+ games a year and having recognition as a Good Team, than a continually small fish at the bottom of a big pond like Kansas or Indiana -- even with more fans in the stands. That to me is a no-brainer of a choice. Why? Because real college football fans recognize the G5 power players -- whether such fans live in Cali, Florida, or Texas.

Speak for yourself. I knew I wanted to go to NIU when I was like 13.

Yes, I wanted to attend U of I, and considered transferring there, but decided to stay. I cherish my years at NIU, the lifelong friends I made, and the success the team has had in recent years. Wouldn't trade it.

I DO attend a school that has 80,000k+ fans. I will always want the huskies to win first, though. I watch more NIU basketball than I do KU.

Wow, if this isn't a troll post I don't know what constitutes one. If a college football fan hasn't heard of NIU than they aren't really a college football fan.

Honestly, I have friends that went to NIU that have the same attitude as Chaz, but they wouldn't waste their time on a NIU fan message board. Think I'll place him on ignore now. Bye bye.

I'm with 7. I knew I wanted to go to NIU. By junior year I knew NIU is where I was going and I didn't even apply to any other colleges.

Darn, forgot to hit the ignore button. I disagree with that statement. The majority of friends/acquaintances that are alumni love seeing NIU succeed and cheer for the Huskies. They may not be rabid fans, but will watch the occasional game and check scores on ESPN.

The few people I know with a negative attitude towards NIU are ones that are negative for everything in life. They complain about work. They complain about friends. They complain about family. They complain about being fat, but then don't work out. I am 100% certain that NIU is not the only thing you are negative towards in life.

I can see it now. Freshman year at NIU and Chaz is sitting in his dorm room on a Thursday night. Everyone on the floor is about to go out for a party. Chaz, being the negative Nancy he is wasn't invited because the other students think he complains too much. This infuriates Chaz. Rather than change he starts to blame everyone else. NIU, students, bars......whatever he can. Flash forward to senior year. Chaz has no friends. The students that in his 400 level classes don't want to work with him because he's such an ass-hat.

Sorry your life sucks. Sorry you have no friends. Sorry you didn't enjoy NIU. Keep posting on here, soon enough there will be no one to talk to. Bye bye again.

If Chaz wasn't a negative-instigator in Other aspects (as you describe), I would have disagreed with you, but I don't -- I agree. At first I kind of thought he was one of those fans of the "bigger" college football team in the state, and rolled his eyes at the mid-major college he was attending.

At WMU we see that a lot with MSU & UM fans. Some don't care much about WMU football... they'll tailgate, have fun, but have the attitude of "Dude, don't take the team so seriously, it's the MAC..." while they follow MSU or UM religiously as "real" football. But Chaz doesn't seem isolated with that at all, though.

When you have Illinois & NU to compare to over the last several years, and so many NIU fans in the NU stands that you thought it was on neutral field -- and NIU unsurprisingly winning: I don't see how even that mentality could resonate in the state of Illinois.

It'd be COMPLETELY ridiculous for true college football fans who go to NIU to scoff at NIU as just "some lower level team" -- when they've been as good or better than Northwestern and Illinois the past several years -- and have gone to a BCS Bowl, too. ODD.

+100... chaz is bad at life.. or depressed or something... that's why I suggested he take a long walk off a short bridge... surprisingly, I was given a warning level for this lol... message board world or not, nobody needs folks like chaz in their life when there are so many great, positive, glass half full folks..04-cheers
