Hofstra beat Jacksonville by 40 points! Lots of talented transfers and freshmen.

Worth noting that although the CAA was winless against "major" teams last night, all those who played other mid major teams won. Good for the conference to beat other mid majors.

RE: MBB: other games of interest
CAA went 2-4 last night - not a great Monday.

Towson and JMU won squeakers over low-end opponents.

Charleston was probably most disappointing, losing at home to Gardner Webb by 13 points.

Delaware lost at Liberty.

Hofstra is a team to watch. They lost by 12 to NC State - the rest of their OOC is much softer from here.

Northeastern gets a nice scalp for the CAA.

76-73 over Florida State.

Northeastern is really scaring me already. I already knew how good Ford and Eatherton could be for them this year but I had no idea how dangerous David Walker (whose name I did not know until I looked at the FSU box score) would be. Seriously, where did this guy come from? He wasn't on any of the all conference teams last year

Great win for them, and the CAA. I know nothing about them, but based on the box score they seem to have almost no depth at all. Will be interesting to see how that affects play when the conference grind hits.

Walker has been solid for a couple years. He is tall for a guard (6'6") and has a nice shot. He averaged double figures last season.
We haven't let him really go crazy against us, but 22.5 ppg in the first two games this season is not too shabby...

Northeastern is very well coached under Coen, always have been.

They definitely appear to be the early horse in the race.

Hofstra's first victim, Jacksonville, got smothered at home by Jackson State tonight - which takes some of the luster off the caliber of their first win. Still, I think Hofstra will be at or near the top of the CAA - and probably our toughest conference road game. We struggle there even when they are well below average.

I always think Matthews arena is a tough place to play too. The hybrid ice hockey/basketball arenas can be difficult to adjust to when teams aren't used to it.

Yeah. It seems that our two toughest opponents this year also have two of the toughest arenas to play at.

Charleston lost only by 8 to a ranked UConn squad. Game was a 4 point game with 24 seconds to go.

Drexel lost by 20 to the Miami team that beat Florida to fall to 0-3. 8 point game with about 12 to go.

RE: MBB: other games of interest
Drexel just lost a 12 point half time lead to USC Trojans to lose by 2 and fall to 0-4

Charleston was up by 6 at half to Texas A&M but lose by 9. (2 point game with 1:45 to go)

So close but the CAA hasn't gotten that BCS win yet

Forgot about that one. Thanks for the reminder. Others have gotten close to winning some of their games too but not quite there.

In the next month+ we will have our shot to beat some good competition like Richmond, UNC, and ODU (who beat Richmond) - unfortunately, all 3 are on the road.

What a horrible loss for Drexel (and the CAA).

You get a 12 point lead at the half on Southern Cal - a big name school who just got plastered by AKRON the night before by 20 points - and blow it.

A couple of interest:

App State (ranked 346 out of 351 in D1) beat Tech in Blacksburg.

Elon is up 8 in the 2nd half on BCS Northwestern (hey, it counts).

Nice win for Charleston over George Mason in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off.

Paul Hewitt is a total waste of money for GMU.
