MBB: News about 2014-15 opponents
Basketball season gets started on November 14th, so as with football I thought I’d start this thread listing the games (and results when play gets underway) of UT opponents; it can also be used for other news about teams on Toledo’s schedule. I’ll post updates when I can, but of course this isn’t “my” thread. Anyone who wants to post schedules, game results or news that might be interesting but that doesn't warrant a separate thread should go ahead. I don’t think I do as well with this as I do with football: too many hoops games to keep track of, and I miss even more basketball games than I do football games. But I still think this is a worthwhile thread.

These are just the games (that I could find) for the opening weekend. Additions and corrections are always welcome.

I’ll be away from the board for a few days starting this weekend, so I won’t be posting my usual updates. I know they will be missed. 05-stirthepot

Duke's Jahlil Okafor hasn't played a regular season game in college yet, but he's an AP Preseason All-American.

Interesting---the Rockets played Wiggins and Kansas last year and will play Duke and Okafor this year.

Duke's Coach K already said he's one and done.

Just looking ahead, because I have Rocket fever, looks like Oregon lost 4 starters and 2 primary backups from last year's round of 32 team via graduations and 3 of them sexually assualting someone

RE: MBB: News about 2014-15 opponents
yeah oregon still has some talent but is down and may be vulnerable. vcu could be the best team we play. duke has tons of talent but need to build a new team and we have applewhite to help us physically in that game.

n arizona our opener is a little scary. they got most everyone back from a team that was toward the top of their league. cleve st will be good. bucknell and detroit might be. robert morris is usually very solid but might be down a little.

Thanks. I'll fix that in the original message.

Was at the Xavier/NAU game tonight. Xavier dominated 93-60. Matt Stainbrook (some of you may remember him from his WMU days) lead X with 18 pts and 9 rebs. Xavier shot 67% for the game. Hope the Rockets are able to have similar success on Sunday.

RE: MBB: News about 2014-15 opponents
former rocket justin moss had his breakout game in the opener as a 4th yr jr for buffalo. looking like a chiseled god he had 13 boards and 25 points in part due to drawing fouls and draining 11-11 free throws. he also had a huge dunk down the stretch but fouled out on a questionable call and buffalo had to squeak out a win against a decent south dakota st squad. buffalo is young and small at guard. their guards are good but our are better bigger older. buffalo lost one of their energy guys in their post rotation a couple weeks ago. kicked out of school for punching another man who was also a ub student. hurley has some done some good things there but they are a probably a yr away if you look at their team.

akron had a dominant home win against a weak d1 team. cmu stomps a small college team. emu ground out a low scoring ten point victory over a small college school. ball st is playing through dec without their top player- a cincy transfer- but played #25 utah close until a big run by the home team in last 5 minutes. they shot the ball well and caused a lot of turnovers by a good utah offense. i don't think they are big or good enough to compete in the west, but look deeper than last yr and possibly a bit of a sleeper team if they get healthier.

So how did Moss go from a career ending heart condition to this.

BTW, I've heard that other MAC coaches just HATE Hurley.

RE: MBB: News about 2014-15 opponents
well, he had additional medical opinions and they determined he could play with a very low risk of having a serious heart event if he was properly monitored. remember, ut was just a few years off of the hairs tragedy and in no mood for chancing something with a player with a diagnosed condition. ut honored his scholarship but after a year he left to pursue his ball dreams went jc and ended up at buffalo. has become the all mac type player he was expected to be at ut and would actually be an ideal pf for this squad (this would have prob been his sr year)
