The brand new football foundation (FF) is not actually offering the money to build a football building. They are in talks asking the city of Birmingham to provide 100% financing in a bond issue to be build a facility somewhere on UAB property. The brand new foundation without even a board of directors (at least announced to the public) has simply agreed to "repay" the bond issue for the next twenty to thirty years.
Has any of these facts changed since the BBJ article?
If not, Too many unanswered questions to proceed such as:
Is this facility at top of Coach Clarks need list? (was not on his earlier list)
Was the project done in corporation/vetted with UAB as promised or just announced to the public?
Has the plan been coordinated with UAB facilities as required of ALL buildings on campus?
How does FF plan to repay ?
Would future donations now be tied/pledged to this and prevent money from going to other future projects such as OCS?
What are the odds that the new FF will still be in existence five years from now(much less last up to thirty years)?
Will the principals of FF willing to be personally liable in default?
Will the owner (the city) have any rights to currently use the building for things such as the senior events or even the classic?
If the FF defaults on bonds will the city of Birmingham then own the building outright the UAB campus?
Heck I have preached for years as to what the east end of campus might do if they got in charge - so I understand the paranoia. Sorry any college administrator would not accept this proposal in present form
