You smart guys had toothless bammers openly speculating about our attendance and program's future on the radio this morning.

I say the same!

Stop embarassing me.

And beyond that it isn't helping the program right now.

I've said my peace.

Some of you need to contemplate this for a bit though.

I'm off to exile for a bit. Unless someone calls me out!

RE: Attendance
It seems obvious that the plan was to blindside everyone and kill the program without debate. Why someone would think its better to stay silent and be killed in your sleep rather than staying awake and fighting against it...

Let me tell you something, smarty. IF we keep our football team, it will be because thousands of us rallied to support this program. This threat is real. It is not perceived or overreaction. If you don't like us trying to rally support for this program, either don't read or maybe you could try STFU as you say.

We on here are fighting FOR the team with positive energy. The negative is coming from our president and AD.

Put your head in the sand if you want to.

Why don't you go ahead and go away early?

Whatever it was, it was more than I saw during the Callaway years, most games of the McGee years, & the last few years of the Watson years.

What threat? All I know is a couple of former players became worried about a study that the Athletics Department was doing, which Watts stated all Departments did them.

Mackin called the study "exciting" for Blazer Athletics. I am sure our Athletic Director, who just hired a great football coach, wouldn't refer to eliminating UAB football as exciting.

Coach Clark said today he wouldn't come to a University that didn't support football.

Here is what we know: Attendance is up 130% this year for home games and we are approaching being bowl eligible. Add in the fact that losing football will make us move to a lower conference in other sports like basketball and soccer, and keeping football is an obvious choice for UAB.

3 year contract & no games past 2016.

Nope. Nothing going on there.

AD and President who made statements that didn't even mention the future of football when that was the specific topic they were supposed to be addressing. Nothing suspicious there.

Yeah, and don't forget the lukewarm reception they gave to the Football Foundation, when they met with them about the Football Practice Facility!

And we didn't know this going into the season? Can Coach Clark not get an extension at the end of the year?

As for the games, Coach Clark wanted to evaluate the effectiveness of the "buy games." As we all know they give our program money but they also kill momentum remember 2012 when we were looking at starting virtually 0-4 or 1-3? They kill enthusiasm for the program.

Then when all this blew up, why didn't Watts say, "Quit being paranoid. Football is fine."?

Would you have believed if he had said it was? Or would we be talking about how he was lying trying to cover the attempts to close the program up? To be honest, I thought he was trying to explain what was going on but didn't want to mention the possible closing of UAB football to avoid the rumor blowing up even more. But of course if he would have said football was fine people would think he was lying. If he had remained silent people would assumed he was hiding something. And if he did a press release and told every one what was going on and avoid the topic of football closing to not relevance to the rumor, then we all know every one thinks he is trying to hide something and is going after football.

Well Coach Clark said today he wouldn't have come to UAB if they weren't committed to football. Do you believe him?

Mackin said yesterday the study will lead to an exciting era of UAB athletics. Do you think he is hiding something?

Look I don't think there is much here and I think it is a distraction for the students, the fans, and the players. This should be a great time for us we have a tough game with undefeated conference foe Marshall, who I hope we beat. And we have a game coming up with our conference rival Southern Miss, who we owe from last year. Plus we are one win away from being bowl eligible.

The future is exciting for UAB football don't make it anything else until we have something more concrete to go on.

Unfortunately PR is part of his job as president. Right now he's overseen a PR train wreck that at least could have been mitigated by simply stating something in clear and uncertain terms. He didn't and now it's seen as a cowardly attempt to put the program in it's final death spiral. No one is tone deaf to the degree that he's shown.
