I previously had plans to apply to UAB's CRNA program.

The estimated cost of which to out-of-state students is 100k for tuition alone.

My 2 children (ages 8 and 12) have been UAB sports fans from birth. They want to go to college at UAB.

Even if they only get BS degrees, that's 4 years each at estimated total cost of 25k a year.

That's a $300,000 income to UAB over the next 10-12 years.

If UAB shuts down football, I can assure you none of that money will ever grace a payment window in Birmingham.

Dr. Watts... I am a man of honor and my word is good.

You can also be sure that I am not the only person in the universe who thinks and will act accordingly with their pocketbook.

The academic marketplace has many options as to where people can spend their money. Don't give me a good reason to spend it lining other University pockets instead of UAB's.

If they drop football, they will be taken out of certain people's will too.

I'm with you Rob, but I am not sure at all that Watt's cares if my daughter or your children go elsewhere.

Maybe not, but he should. 1/4 million here, 1/4 million there.....soon you are talking about "real" money! :)

This whole things seems to me like a perfect illustration of "penny wise, pound foolish"

One of the conspiracy narratives is that Watts was brought in to eliminate tons of programs and turn UAB into a satellite campus that is more comparable to the University of Phoenix than a real, standalone university. Maybe he wants people's money to go elsewhere, because that is part of the plan.

I hope you sent this to him. They don't realize the effect of the decision they are making. It's bad for university, bad for city and business.

They won't see another dime from me and I'll advise them to put me on the do not call list. I went to UAB because I wanted to part of something that was growing, I'll be damned if they devalue my degree.

I'm not at a point in my life where I can donate much of anything, but if everything goes through that I'm hearing about, I'll have real trouble giving one dollar or second of support to Uab as long as watts is associated with the school.. Maybe ever.. And that really saddens me.. This whole thing sickens me
