RE: Open Thread - Election 2014
When bad things happen for team blue (or when he talks off camera about Ron Paul) .... you can just barely see that dim flicker of Barry Goldwater left in Chris Matthews. (Chris did support Goldwater back in his youth). It's still there. It's got a thick shell of statism over it ... but you can still see it under there.

Fox now predicting republicans pick up at least 12 seats in the house. Dems can probably take solace that they didnt end up losing the senate seats in Oregon and New Mexico.

I'm now brimming with schadenfreude from Madcow, Harry Potter, Matthews, and Skeletor. Flipping back to Megyn.

The Vermont race is notable because the GOP candidate has no relevant experience, no financial support to speak of, and was generally deemed to be a "Some Dude" in the current parlance of political observers.

MSNBC is raising the white flag. The angry coalition of women, minorities, gays, government union workers is falling apart.

Because they are not even trying to be "fair and balanced " anymore.

Yeah. Matthews use to be a die hard republican, his brother still is. He even voted for W.

I've read some of Matthews' books and watched a lot of his shows. I have never EVER heard him mention being a Republican at any stage of his life.

The lesson of the Obama years: government is inherently incompetent. So to limit the damage it does, make it as small as possible.

Kirsten Powers pretty straight up. Says democrats wasted this election by concentrating on helping Wendy Davis turn Texas blue, only to get blown out there and lose other seats they should have been paying attention to.

He admitted that he voted for W once but wouldn't say which time. I assume 2000.

No. That was when the dems had power. Now that the GOP has power gov't is good.

She's smart and good looking. Too bad she's a Dem.

Shes fairly reasonable though. The only thing really bad about her is that she dated Anthony Weiner.

I think I do remember him saying that, and yes if he did vote for him it would've definitely have been 2000, not 2004.

But voting for GWB against Gore is not the same thing as "being" a "die hard Republican." I think you're off on that one, but if there is any link or clip of him saying that, I'll gladly eat some crow.
