RE: Hey South Al, welcome to The Swamp...
people call us lots of things, mostly out of ignorance. that irritates me more than anything. if people call us SoBama or South Bama just to be a tool then I dont really care

Yea. Really dont care what you call us. The way I see it, we need to 'steal' a game to make up for the loss to Ga Southern. Our schedule gets really difficult from here on out. No obvious wins (@ULL, @ArkSt, @ South Carolina, Navy, and Texas State) Here's where we are at. I think we need two wins for a bowl. I'm seeing us being favored in maybe one of the games on the rest of the schedule.
5-2. Five wins against teams with really bad records. Two blowouts at home against teams with good records. We seem to be consistent on the road. But our offense has been really inconsistent. And we haven't played all that well against weaker teams recently. And ULL probably remembers that beat down we put on them last year.
This looks like a tough game for USA. Hopefully Bridge and the USA WR's will have one of their 'streaky good' games. We're an underdog for a reason in this one.

Well Tom JMO I think one more win especially if its against TxSt may get you in assuming that the teams I will mention get to six Ark St and UL will automatically get a bowl I see TsSt and USA fight for that last bowl that we are locked into , do they take a team close to the bowl game or do they go with a team with a better record assuming somehow TxSt ends up with the better record if you ever had a shot this is the year. I don't see GaSo in the mix even with a waiver because the conference would push for an open bowl to maximize our bowl teams.

I think that in order to be 'safely' in a bowl slot, USA needs seven wins. The fact that one of the bowls is in Mobile helps, but it is no guarantee.

What do you prefer to be called and not be called. I will oblige, I didn't realize south al was not acceptable.
South AL isn't terrible to me but a lot don't like it. South Bama is the one I hate. We are also the Jaguars (Jag-wars and not Jag-wires).
Most Jag fans use USA, South, Jags, or South Alabama. We almost never say "Jaguars" in its entirety in normal lingo.
You can call us whatever. We really aren't that picky.
I've always used south al or just south, I was not aware that bothered some. I just used it because it's shorter with less syllables. You know us Cajuns, we like to talk fast. I'll be conscious of that going forward.
Early (late 70s and 80s) SBC basketball TV announcers started the "South Al" thing.

I don't know what to make of that statement.
The only way Southern gets a waiver is IF not enough FBS teams get to the required 6 wins. IF that were true, that would include any Sun Belt teams. So, there would be no Belt teams left with 6 wins to "push" for. And it really wouldn't be up to the Conference at all anyway.
