On this thread you said regarding us and App "If either of them goes 5-3 it will be a minor miracle"
Now it will be major miracle if we don't finish higher than that. I have no idea why I'm posting this and I hope I don't live to regret it, but you were begging for examples so there's one.
Where does not having to play stAte or Louisiana in your first season rank on the miracle scale? Minor?
I shouldn't respond but I'm a glutton for punishment.
You posted that on 6/30/14, so I'd say that should have been part of your research before making a prophetic remark as the schedule was available.
Ga Southern has already done in 5 games what MTSU couldn't do in 10 years.
Go 5-0 in conference
Score 69 points in a conference game
Set the conference rushing record in a game.
But his perspective is from a MTSU mindset, so his constant doubts about Ga Southern's ability to succeed is understandable. Sometimes you just won't be able to "Get it".

There are many more pages of this.
BUT IN MTPIKAPP's DEFENSE! (Don't string him up just yet.) He has also said some very complimentary things about GS and has been in favor of GS and APP joining the SBC for many years. Like everyone I'm sure his views and opinions ebb and flow. But MT, don't pretend like your pure as driven snow in this because there are many many examples of where you've said really disparaging things about GS.
I wasn't here when that thread originated in 2009 so it was my first read. Very interesting. Reading that thread reminded me of the line from "The Godfather"........"It's business, not personal." Hard not to take some of the things said personally. Anyway, five years later and here we are. The two schools nobody really wanted and have nothing to offer the Belt are now members (though still in transition).

A post from more than five years ago that I'm not sure exactly qualifies as something I've "gotten wrong" about GS.
Quote:Georgia Southern sucks.
At the time GS's last three seasons were 3-8, 7-4, 6-5.
Quote:Statesboro is a cesspool.
I did not enjoy my one trip to Statesboro, but even I will admit that five years ago I was a little more combative, I'm sure Statesboro is far nicer than I found it in my one trip more than 10 years ago.
Quote:The Eagles are 0-0 against the Sun Belt.
True at the time.

That's a bit of revisionist history, you two were pretty consistently the top two choices in nearly every expansion thread up until you were picked. The majority of "not wanting GS/App" was actually not wanting anyone, in the time of the thread in question we had just gotten to nine FB members with WKU going full member and a 10th member established with USA getting their program started, there just wasn't a desire to go to 12.

Wow for someone who keeps on harping on me for being "wrong"(with no proof) you sure just swung and missed big time...
MT started the 2006 season 6-0
MT scored 70 on Idaho in 2001(and came within a TD scoring 62 on WKU in 2009)
I honestly don't know if we ever had a conference rushing record, but considering your offensive philosophy, that one should come as no surprise, I sincerely doubt we ever rushed the ball 61 times in a game.
You see that, that's called "telling someone they are wrong and providing proof." Take notes.

Didn't realize Idaho was in the SBC from 01-04 so you got me there.
Let me revisit in a week and a half when we are 7-0 and I will repost the point.
But congrats, at 5-0 Ga Southern has already done in our first year what MTSU could only do once in 13 years.

No, GSU Eagles said we never scored 69 in a conference game, but we scored 70 on Idaho and came within a TD(of 69) scoring 62 on Western.

Welcome to the Belt Board....Where folks attribute comments to an entire fan base but are not smart enough to use the quote function to prove it.
Honestly who cares about moving to another non P-5, we are all G5 and unless we stop playing money games and more against each other it is near impossible to tell who is the best. CUSA played mostly our worst teams and only four games We are 10-12 against the G5 and FCS all but three losses came from Idaho, NMSU, App and Troy. The other three were UL-La Tech, UL-Boise, Txst-Navy. All the top teams mostly played P5 games. We have three G5 games left two against Navy-GS / USA and Idaho against SDSU. Definitely a step back as I predicted but, if we flip the games and put our best against the other worst it wouldn't prove much either. I want to see more top G5's go head to head and give up a money game now and then.
As far as the State "rivalry" it was a paper tiger one. We finally got to show how far the two programs are apart. Until the games at least get respectable it is like talking smack to Sav St there is no point. In a loose sense we more off the field rivals, as much as any in state program is to any other but that is about it. To the OP, not buying it but whatever its done and honestly I hope our hoops teams does well but we all know what drives the bus. Pawwwl Fienbaum is not a multi millionaire talking about basketball in the South and Alabama's b-ball coach's salary is probably equivalent to what Saban spends on step stools and shoe inserts.
While we have numerous over the top fans it comes from a history of winning and Ill take over zealous fans than the alternative. I think if we did not win another game we have a right to beat our chest a little. We have exceeded any prediction I saw on here outside of our own fans and have already exceeded any preseason "expert" prognostications as well. Honestly, I think we might take a step back next year especially on the O line. I am still looking to year three because we will be at full scholarship depth and have a starting roster of at least two deep of FBS talent and not just starters.
And with that someone will start a 5th thread discussing the non rivalry. LOL

Statesboro is a small relatively rural community but part of the second largest statistical metro area in Georgia. No significant blight of any kind. Outstanding, no check that, World class community centers, recreation facilities, and learning centers. With Georgia Southern University, Statesboro is extremely well managed and is an economic engine for the region. Check out the video at the below link and ask yourself a simple question. As I stated just a few posts ago, that post from me is over five years old, I was being intentionally combative(something I was far more prone to do five years ago) regarding Statesboro.
I went to Statesboro one time when I was 18 and I didn't enjoy my visit, but I was 18, I'm sure if I went back today I'd enjoy myself much more.
It was a dumb thing to say and I apologize to everyone that holds Statesboro dear to their heart.

Five years ago I said Southern sucked, you had never played a game against the Sun Belt and that Statesboro was a cesspool.
It was the Chris Hatcher era(you did suck) and you had not played any games against the conference.
If you read the thread from the beginning I said that you would be a good addition to the conference, but was not in favor of expansion.
It was only after it turned into a "why don't you want us" thread with accusations of an elitist attitude that things turned nasty and I started disparaging Statesboro. I was irritated with a thread started by a GS fan asking us how we felt about them as expansion and when the responses weren't gushing the GS fans got increasingly defensive. Fed up with the thread I took cheap shots at Statesboro, I'm not proud of it and I apologized, just five years later "your city sucks" smack is one of my biggest pet peeves.
But please, enlighten me, what's so funny about a MT fan talking smack?
