As for 'how we get away with it,' we get away with it through the same means that every other team in the conference gets away with it. Miami reported this crowd as 9,000+ last season.

That's not true.

And I agree...I was up there for the basketball game last year and feel like 25% of the basketball fans were from Toledo and 75% were from EMU. Same with football...the couple games I have been to (years ago) it seemed like UT fans made up 25-40% of the stadium.

You're right. Some teams do exaggerate their attendance to a higher degree. Today, we were one of those teams. But not one team in the country counts the actual attendance number. Every FBS team gets creative to increase the number of tickets sold to higher numbers. Why wouldn't you?

How in the world do they get away w this???

Here was the pic taken at kickoff...

WMU's announced attendance was just over 20k.

Try to spot the difference between these two pictures! Pic from Waldo today:

looks a lot like a band on the field. either that or there were too many men on the field. they certainly weren't on the sidelines ...yet. nice try.

Exactly. Welcome EMU to the world of counting paid/corporate donations/whatever-you-want-to call it. There would have been a lot less threads on their attendance had this started years ago. Kudos to them.

Here's a picture of the game today when it was actually going on...and as you can see, not much of a difference compared to the original picture posted. Plus they're all NIU fans in red.

Seems like all the EMU fans are all on the side the picture's being taken from. Also see how the picture is being taken from like the 30? Most would be sitting on the 50 which we can't see.

Certainly not 19K, but not worthy of another 'EMU's attendance is 0' type of thread.

Yes but to bump up a number of 1000 to almost 20000? Really? And of those in the picture and in attendance, I'd say the vast majority were friends or family and there on 'comped' tickets as well, so "tickets sold" wouldn't be right either.

Today? Most days.

When NIU reports attendance of 18,400 thats butts in the stands. I usually feel when actually attending that the stadium feels fuller than reported, pisses me off...

God bless EMU, but its 100% just not an FBS culture.

The Michigan-Sparty game was on during the EMU game, don't know why you guys expected the stands to be packed?

It was on in Kalamazoo too, but the stands were packed at Waldo.

The thing is, most of us do not care if EMU had only 1500 people there - or what ever the real amount was. What we do care about is the lie. We generally all feel proud when our school gets a crowd in the high teens to low twentys and we feel robbed when schools lie about their figures!

It is disgusting when EMU's attendance figures will look better than another school that has lower, but honest numbers.

I can't imagine anyone cares what a school announces for attendance, let alone feel disgusted by it. Why would I care if they announce 100, 1000, 10,000 or 100,000? Doesn't make a flea's difference to my school.

The only ones who give a rat's azz about this are anal retentive posters pontificating their indignation on a back-end Internet message board. Well done, if that's your thing.

The situation at EMU is clear: pepsi buys a bunch of tix for selected games every few years to keep our official average high enough for the NCAA. Thats it. Now go bother those three little billygoats.

No, I think the P5 cares.....just shows them why they need autonomy from the like of some of these G5 schools pretending to say they are FBS.
