I prefer the Red/Black chant to be started during a long TV break. I would rather not have it being started when it is not a TV break as its not a great in play cheer but a fun thing to do during a longer break in action.

Everyone has chants but does anyone else do a Red/Black chant? Traditions don't need to be completely revolutionary.

Awesome.

I had to ask my friend if they blew the canon off at the CMU game we went to. It was a week later. He said yes. Honestly, no recollection.

I couldn't tell you if a Huskie was running around.

Could not tell you if they played Metallica, Beatles, JayZ, or that really irritating song Take Me to Church.

Want something unique? You know Castle Bank's show us your Castle card? Well, how about a "Show us your sex toy!" promotion sponsored by the Paperback Grotto? All the young ladies (and guys, too, I guess) can show off their sex toys for the stadium and ESPN cameras to see. And...if some lucky young lady shows off a "pocket rocket" during the Toledo game, she wins $100 and a year's supply of batteries.

How's THAT for a unique tradition?

You never cease to amaze, DF! 03-lmfao

He probably already made that suggestion to the people in charge. Maybe that's why Compher left? 03-idea

Back in the 70's fans used to shake their keys during kickoffs. That tradition seems to have died.

At the Miami game I did not see people raising their hands in memory of the five students that lost their lives in the tragic shootings in 2008. That made me sad.

My buddies and I, and saw more than a couple of Fans, did both of those at the Northwestern v NIU game. I was too hammered to remember if it was done during homecoming.

Had you overly indulged at tailgating? Were you sleep deprived? Maybe you really weren't even AT the game. LOL just kidding. ;-)
Cheer up my friend...don't be cranky. Would you prefer dead silence? no music, no canon, no mascot, no band, no cheerleaders, no red/black chant, no 3rd down yelling...no nothing?
What can NIU do to make a better gameday experience for you? One you would feel was exciting & memorable? The powers that be are paying attention these days & they are open to ideas from us.

The key thing was still going in 06 and then it has slowly died off.

I still shake my keys for a kickoff...but only the opening kickoff and every kickoff where NIU scored points. I rarely see anyone around me do it.

Quite a few still do it in the lower 1/3 of section E. Around me in section F most of the people around us are recruits and single ticket buyers so I don't expect them to know about it. I am actually surprised at how few people behind me ask or comment what its about...though someone did 2 weeks ago.

Had folks near me ask last week.

The five fingers salute still lives. Friends in my section do it.

Did the 5 fingers at the Poinsettia Bowl and the UNLV game. I was very touched to see the players and coaches joining in.

Since I only get a chance to actually go to a game every other year or so, I get really excited when I get to do the "Huskie 1st down" chant. (What can I say, I live a dull life.) Also had fun outshouting the "UNLV" chant with "NIU".

Based on the title, I thought this was going to be an inspiring story of one mans attempt to beat erectile dysfunction. If there's a Lifetime channel for men, it would have it.

"Disappearing Cannon; One man's struggle to get boners in a land of flaccidity. Staring Nicolas Cage as Hugh G. Rection...."

It wouldn't surprise me at all if that's the case. And Diesel is no longer allowed to run the field. Incredible.

BRING BACK DIESEL!

Are you serious...they wont allow him on the field anymore? Does he just stay in the East lot the whole game? Does Cheer Dad not even go inside the stadium?

HuskieBob, I thought it was cheerdad's decision to retire Diesel as he was having hip problems & it was getting harder for him to run in the endzone. Maybe I misunderstood?
