Bell, Zappone earn MAC weekly honors
Great job guys!

Co-Offensive Player of the Week: Eastern Michigan QB Reginald Bell Jr.
Eastern Michigan freshman quarterback Reginald Bell Jr. (Los Angeles, Calif.) rushed for 202 yards and three touchdowns and threw for 144 yards and another score in a 37-27 win over Buffalo. Bell entered the contest with 4:15 remaining in the second quarter when the team was down, 10-0, and propelled the squad to a 37-27 victory, bolstering the team's total yardage from 73 yards to 484 in just over a half a game. Bell racked up a school record-tying four touchdowns. Bell rushed for three touchdowns for a total of 202 yards and became the first player in school history to run for two 70-plus yard touchdowns in one game. The 202 rushing yards by Bell in the Eagles' win over the Bulls marked the first time that an Eagle has run for more than 200 yards since Oct. 19, 2013, when Bronson Hill put up 257 yards against Ohio. The redshirt freshman ended the afternoon completing eight passes in 13 attempts to rack up 144 passing yards and one touchdown.

Defensive Player of the Week: Eastern Michigan LB Anthony Zappone
Eastern Michigan sophomore linebacker Anthony Zappone (Westlake, Ohio) recorded a career-best 13 tackles in a 37-27 victory over Buffalo to go with a career high three tackles for loss. The redshirt-sophomore currently sits in a tie for first in the MAC in tackles for loss as he is averaging five a game. His 9.5 tackles per contest ranks seventh in the league among linebackers. Zappone's 9.5 tackles per contest also tie for 11th in the conference.

Well deserved for both players.

Bell also won the CFPA Performer of the Week and CFPA QB Performer of the Week. Granted, I had never heard of those awards before today, but it's national attention nonetheless.

I'm really liking our front seven for next year. And all of this without Spearman. The biggest hole I see for next year's defense is the secondary.

Agreed. It's easy to forget about Spearman...he's was probably our best LB last year. Put him in there with Ibe and Zappone and you have a very solid group. Having no senior starters up front has me excited for the future of our defense.

I'm with you on the secondary, but luckily a decent front 7 can hide that a little bit. Jason Beck looks like he's gonna be a player, but I expected more from a senior laden group. Hopefully some of our young guys, like Quan Pace, show some improvement moving forward.
