No surprise here given the unfolding events. Just sad that the institution first blames the nurses, avoiding responsibility for their own inadequate procedures and training.

Also heard that the nurse who flew on a commercial carrier informed the CDC that she had a fever and was flying, before she left.

Plenty of blame to go around.

RE: Ebola
Why not stop incoming flights from West Africa?

The CDC head was asked that question today by our very own Fred Upton, and he answered it this way today before congress.

"If we stop flights from West Africa they will come in through our POROUS borders."

So, apparently he's saying that one or both of are borders are INSECURE? Ya think!!!!

So we have the Republicans who want open borders for cheap labor, and the Dems who want open borders for future Democratic voters (and to flood the country with Central American children, uneducated/unskilled workers, not to mention Mexican Drug Cartel gang banger).

So these two constituencies now have a choice. Do we close secure the borders so that if Ebola ends up in Central America they don't migrate through our southern border like the 30.000 Central American kids did, or do we let cheap labor, and future Dem voters trump our national health security.

That is the real reason the Head of the CDC is ducking and dodging. He wants them trying to sneak in the front door, i.e. our airports (where supposedly they have ways of detecting it 03-shhhh), rather than sneak in UNNOTICED through our southern border. And our politicians have to chose between our safety vs. votes and cheap labor.

When people fear for their lives and their families lives it can become toxic. Rest assured, if the feds continue to neglect our southern border, every gun toting nut job in Texas and Arizona will secure it for them, and that could get messy.

RE: Ebola
The President is on TV as I write, stating a travel ban is not the way to go.

IF.......IF.........more cases end up getting into this country on a flight from West Africa, this guy may not survive his term. Parents with children are already starting to panic. Akron schools shut down today because a parent of a student had been on the plane with the nurse treated the first Ebola victim in Dallas.

Imagine what will happen if there are a couple thousand outbreaks nationwide. I can see parents keeping their kids home from school because there is ONE victim within a hundred miles of them.

This is not the time to lead from behind, and that's what he is doing.....AGAIN.

It does seem that hospital was a little slow on the uptake. Still, this was the first walkin case, right, anybody that ever went to an urban emergency room can just visualize this going down. The intake nurse kind of tired, wondering if this African has insurance, sticking him in a corner for a couple hours. Nurses just sleepwalking through their shift like many of them do. I'm not impressed with the medical system at all. And Kalamazoo is elite, from what I hear, think what things must be like in dumps like downtown Dallas.

Nothing to worry about.

The United States has FOUR fully trained quarantine centers with a sum total of 11 beds. We've got it covered 03-drunk

RE: Ebola
The logic from the CDC is beyond stupid. "We must not stop planes from flying here from West Africa."

It's like the schools telling parents that you must not keep your kids home if they have the flu. Mind boggling.

Ebola
A large bank has shut down all of their offices in Ohio. Apparently they had employees on the flight. Shut down till Tuesday I believe.

So WMU is headed to bowling green Saturday. Well that is potentially reaching us a lot sooner than I expected.

And they don't even have a reported case. Imagine what happens if a case is reported in Detroit. The whole damn state shuts down. Now multiply that by 300, which isn't even a high amount.

Our country is virtually leaderless these days. A mid level executive could show more leadership than this bunch in DC.

RE: Ebola
Could just not let people from W. Africa into the United States to get free medical care, infect our citizens and then sue our hospitals when they aren't cured. This is going to end up costing us billions. All because someone in Liberia ate an undercooked bat the public health infrastructure of the United States is getting strained to the max, global markets are volatile and medical professionals are being put at risk. Not to mention for every Liberian that we are treating for free there are American customers who aren't going to be receiving services.

Why Columbus? He ****** up the Caribbean and south America not Africa. Maybe the slave trade? But even then more slaves went to the Caribbean and south America than the US. I think we should close school for the next 21 days to be safe.

100 people volunteered to be quarantined because of possible exposure. Last place I would want to be right now is under the care of the CDC

Closing schools sounds like a pretty good idea.

I teach this type of stuff. We Euro decent people lived very close with animals and our own poop for thousands of years. People in the new world only had one native large animal that could be domesticated and it was the llama. We developed immunity to many different things and when they were exposed to them in the new world they killed as many as 90% of the population. New researchers are starting to give more blame to the French which sounds about right to me. 01-france
