It's hard to believe that I was a freshman in college 20 years ago!!! It was 20 years ago that 134 students from across the southeast came together to begin a new tradition on campus called the Marching Blazers!!!! The band has gone through many changes over the years, but the band band has quickly grown into on of the best college band programs around.

I'm so glad that I had the opportunity to be in that first band. I want to thank Dr. Clifford Winter (the first director), Dr. J. Claude Bennett and Coach Gene Bartow for bringing the Marching Blazers to life 20 years ago!!!!

Smaug, I am participating!

I wasn't there until '99 but I still look back on that experience with great fondness. I'm glad I transferred to JSU in that I met my wife there, but I actually enjoyed the overall marching band and educational experience at UAB much more.
